Carthy Two

Like a ship on the sea, I swear to the night, let me find the quay, a shoal of lost hordes, all in flight, signal the poor, seek my lost fidelity, between moon and sky, you let me see, from the earth's back door, a terrible why, floats from the ocean's spoor, curdled in the weeds, their arms held tight, who will set them free, get them to the shore, do what's right, contain the furore, please rock me gently, say everything's fine, be kind baby, look at my eyes.

Emily Three

Clouds unfurl in the sky, death brings no easy due, even when you die, who cares what’s at stake, it always comes for you, forever burns in your grate, something deep inside, not just any ordinary due, makes you want to cry those barriers I make, not to look a fool, who cares if I’m great, however high you fly, love is not immune, but always worth a try, lying's if you castigate, something lost inside you, whenever you walk away, on troubled nights, we’ve had a few, spare me the questions right, I guess you knew.

Across from the pub, where we drink wine, she gives me a shove, the deals behind Primark, to her is no crime, grabs hold of my arm, she looks up above, lost in her time, the years she went bust, hair like a jump start, she hasn't a dime, no one takes her part, we met in some club, initially fine, where no one has luck, never easy or calm, she tells many lies, a wandering star, and lays down lost looks, says everything's fine, asks me to rub, the pain in her side.

She has some spark, her lovely face lights, early as the lark, she hankers for love, most of her nights, doesn’t worry what's above, in a supermarket car park, they ask her why, she hangs around bars, says we all need a crust, black suits her fine, she doesn’t drink doubles, never walks far, to gossip is a crime, each step another car, works without gloves, unlike other times, Okay, when it's good, but never a chart, to show us what's right, she’ll give it some thought, maybe next time.

Carthy

I stand by her grave, where praise be, I hope to be saved, my eyes like thunder, wine dark like the sea, it makes me shudder, from the blue Nave, stooped in the lee, she had nothing left, here and there a cluster, of poplar trees, they neither wave nor linger, my voice starts to break, it's late for the season, geese fly away, her face is the wonder, happy laughing sweet, that I tore asunder, it's quiet in this place, my place of need, I ask for the space, left open for me.

You who burn the tar, do not bring good news, even in your car, a trip on your radio, brings sweeties for a few, love never eats alone, you won't cross the arc, but make your excuses, right from the start, it takes a heart of stone, to ignore my ju ju, the way things go, and this has gone too far, lipstick, the jeans I use, no way am I your tart, splutter down the ‘phone, act like a distant mark, is this your last fandango, I smoke a Lucky Star, smell summer’s sweet perfume, you who are falling apart, with your lousy tunes

Catherine Two

Is it peace or fame, a bird on the wire, that you rage against, shuffling out the gloom, chanting to the wind, no one flies to you, many come this way, they pester you for hire, ask and ask again, tell them what to do, your face dire, what’s forever blue, an offering to the naysay, a burnt-out tyre, this is all you give, always someone's due, their wretched desire, nothing else of virtue, the miracle they crave, is not what you desire, betrayed by brains, you play with fire
