Stevie Three
My eyes shine too late,
in rooms where flowers grow,
champagne cognac’s chase,
wads of cash we blew,
stick the need to know,
clear away from the news,
we’re always just too late,
putting down the ‘phone,
live with what remains,
you never seem to use,
how they set the dough,
it’s no longer part of you,
why worry without the gain,
at supper chide my groans,
whistle off our pain,
say it’s all a ruse,
a dream that’s flown,
no such taste of you,
let them know we're great,
live our life and show,
eviscerate the hate,
take it on the blow.

Stevie Two
Don't pray in the rain,
or swear upon your mother,
stuff you can't take,
hope she can use,
costs that you smother,
places without refuge,
see that portrait,
on a wounded cover,
it’s got your name,
whatever you choose,
don't curse or bother,
who pays the dues,
whisky fires the brain,
the good live without trouble,
then blaze away,
no book or dawn curfew,
makes you wonder,
despite all the feuds,
gains that you'll make,
fly like new lovers,
spirits on the freeway,
can’t mask the thunder.

Stevie
Fire and evening light,
when you play my tune,
don’t even have to try,
longing for my phone,
it doesn't have Bluetooth,
a Nokia monotone,
the beach comes to life,
cool grains soothe,
above us Freeway lights,
bring grace to our bones,
accept all that we do,
even to atone,
a return to paradise,
we never make the news,
just live a better life,
to shelter all that's gone,
something we can glue,
instead of being alone,
you’re not always nice,
blurt out what’s true,
feed the warming pyre,
know what it is to lose.

Why dredge the malls,
sit down in the rain,
hover at infirmary's door,
you are never at home,
it’s just a shame,
stuff that makes you roam,
what am I saying this for,
there’s nothing to gain,
while you run with whores,
can't you be alone,
dance away my pain,
recognise love’s a loan,
you know the score,
your face a savage shade,
I’m paying you roar,
don't spit on the floor,
or cry out my name,
you’re not the same anymore,
if you slip you’ll fall,
I never want to say,
the time is too raw,
to face myself again.
Katie Three
Sometimes I ask why,
can we ever atone,
when stars burn like ice,
It would be great,
to light our bitter home,
night and day,
but not blessed with foresight,
the wind runs cold,
you pour another wine,
are kids and dogs your game,
your eyes look old,
listen just the same,
when you hear me cry,
don’t ask too much of love,
it's not enough to sigh,
hammer shiny nails,
help me with the loans,
this place is not a jail,
no matter how we fight,
or beat our yellow bones,
we can do what’s right,
quietly in the zone.

Katie Two
Sad songs in my car,
hot water in my tank,
doesn’t leave a tide mark,
washed by your stupid ways,
a ticking from the crank,
awful terrible waste,
you steer within the dark,
make even sunshine dank,
scatter ashes on the bar,
what is left to say,
my mind fills up blank,
clings to a brighter day,
Oh you are a dog,
a million ways to crack,
split me like a log,
brought me to this state,
as if I was a bank,
it’s bust anyway,
we never know how far,
what lies down the track,
to see what's going on,
or who else to thank?
Katie
Please don't identify,
one lonely swimming pool,
between me and the sky,
tell me it’s nothing,
lies ripped from a sewer,
you never offer,
to stay for these nights,
no one unused,
stuff that makes you feel right,
don’t want me to suffer,
shed all bad dreams too,
act like a winner,
bring sweetness to the light,
grant my purview,
buttered dreams sweet fire,
savour the offer,
to say what's true,
instead of phoney proverbs,
don’t ask me why,
I fear losing,
my toes stretched up high,
this long afternoon

Ray Two
Can you bring serenity,
to this creature in a jar,
rescued from the sea,
like someone in a grave,
bears a different mark,
something you can't name,
one who sets you free,
like a bell from far,
back to childhood dreams,
maybe it's a different age,
we drive around in cars,
but I still feel strange,
nothing fills my need,
'cept a salty bog,
somewhere I can scream,
to dance by the waves,
sails wrapped around a spar,
rid the stuff that's wreckage,
the only thing real,
this little stickleback La,
swimming around a jammy,
who needs a Da?

Ray
I’ll take a ship to France,
do you want me to stay,
beg for another chance,
don't get so cute,
the way life is framed,
you're no fool,
in fact you're banned,
once again nailed,
start to prance,
we’re not so cool,
lies mere details,
we don’t run smooth,
don’t look askance,
when I start to rail,
passion can pass,
shame doesn’t bother you,
nothing more to say,
you won’t need tunes,
to slide down the scale,
will you take my hand,
look at me again,
say I’ve got some class,
call my name?

Carthy Four
Can't get around the news,
that you’ve slipped away,
your note tells the truth,
you stepped off the Metro,
finished up your days,
left me with the loans,
I haven't got a clue,
what in heaven's name,
I’m going to do,
everything we call home,
doesn’t glisten the same,
the dogs see you go,
I sing hopeless tunes,
trapped within their gaze,
everything is blue,
you just left us alone,
as if it was some game,
made jelly of our bones,
I am a bitter fruit,
to put upon your plate,
ask where you are going,
dancing in the rain?
Carthy Three
Since you've gone away,
I don't know what to do,
but each night pray,
laugh in the hurricane zone,
see your face in whirlpools,
above me like a drone,
sickened every day,
the sea still surrounds you,
wonder if there’s a way,
you’ll send me a loan,
you don’t want to,
gardens need to grow,
walls are turning grey,
say I never loved you,
as if I’m on the make,
don’t want to be alone,
not saying isn’t true,
I’m just a rolling stone,
my eyes are like jade,
I’ll resist any curfew,
lying by the drains,
on dreary afternoons.

Carthy Two
Like a ship on the sea,
I swear to the night,
let me find the quay,
a shoal of lost hordes,
all in flight,
signal the poor,
seek my lost fidelity,
between moon and sky,
you let me see,
from the earth's back door,
a terrible why,
floats from the ocean's spoor,
curdled in the weeds,
their arms held tight,
who will set them free,
get them to the shore,
do what's right,
contain the furore,
please rock me gently,
say everything's fine,
be kind baby,
look at my eyes.

Emily Three
Clouds unfurl in the sky,
death brings no easy due,
even when you die,
who cares what’s at stake,
it always comes for you,
forever burns in your grate,
something deep inside,
not just any ordinary due,
makes you want to cry
those barriers I make,
not to look a fool,
who cares if I’m great,
however high you fly,
love is not immune,
but always worth a try,
lying's if you castigate,
something lost inside you,
whenever you walk away,
on troubled nights,
we’ve had a few,
spare me the questions right,
I guess you knew.

Emily Two
Across from the pub,
where we drink wine,
she gives me a shove,
the deals behind Primark,
to her is no crime,
grabs hold of my arm,
she looks up above,
lost in her time,
the years she went bust,
hair like a jump start,
she hasn't a dime,
no one takes her part,
we met in some club,
initially fine,
where no one has luck,
never easy or calm,
she tells many lies,
a wandering star,
and lays down lost looks,
says everything's fine,
asks me to rub,
the pain in her side.
Saturday, 15 February 2020
Emily
She has some spark,
her lovely face lights,
early as the lark,
she hankers for love,
most of her nights,
doesn’t worry what's above,
in a supermarket car park,
they ask her why,
she hangs around bars,
says we all need a crust,
black suits her fine,
she doesn’t drink doubles,
never walks far,
to gossip is a crime,
each step another car,
works without gloves,
unlike other times,
Okay, when it's good,
but never a chart,
to show us what's right,
she’ll give it some thought,
maybe next time.

Carthy
I stand by her grave,
where praise be,
I hope to be saved,
my eyes like thunder,
wine dark like the sea,
it makes me shudder,
from the blue Nave,
stooped in the lee,
she had nothing left,
here and there a cluster,
of poplar trees,
they neither wave nor linger,
my voice starts to break,
it's late for the season,
geese fly away,
her face is the wonder,
happy laughing sweet,
that I tore asunder,
it's quiet in this place,
my place of need,
I ask for the space,
left open for me.
Catherine Three
You who burn the tar,
do not bring good news,
even in your car,
a trip on your radio,
brings sweeties for a few,
love never eats alone,
you won't cross the arc,
but make your excuses,
right from the start,
it takes a heart of stone,
to ignore my ju ju,
the way things go,
and this has gone too far,
lipstick, the jeans I use,
no way am I your tart,
splutter down the ‘phone,
act like a distant mark,
is this your last fandango,
I smoke a Lucky Star,
smell summer’s sweet perfume,
you who are falling apart,
with your lousy tunes

Catherine Two
Is it peace or fame,
a bird on the wire,
that you rage against,
shuffling out the gloom,
chanting to the wind,
no one flies to you,
many come this way,
they pester you for hire,
ask and ask again,
tell them what to do,
your face dire,
what’s forever blue,
an offering to the naysay,
a burnt-out tyre,
this is all you give,
always someone's due,
their wretched desire,
nothing else of virtue,
the miracle they crave,
is not what you desire,
betrayed by brains,
you play with fire

Catherine
I'll gamble it all away,
don't care what you do,
you can't stop this age,
in winter's iron maw,
there is no Neptune,
just a shallow thaw,
watch ships in the bay,
work is just a ruse,
to salt away our rage,
everyone's a whore,
sad song's ring on cue,
what a cache they hoard,
smoke Camels in the rain,
every trick in use,
it’s all such a game,
love comes tied with cord,
I don’t really hate you,
why make me roar,
this generation’s betrayed,
TV reveals bitter news,
we could fill our grave,
with all their shoddy goods.

Danny Three
My song is dead good mojo,
It may be flawed,
but I know the score,
my love’s like a flea,
whoever takes the tour,
always lands on me,
join this band of lonely,
a lender of last resort,
I won't leave you alone,
each tune a jumping bean,
brings you back for more,
don’t you dig this scene,
dance in my zone,
like you did before,
our time is never done,
it dances on the sea,
your hair shines the floor,
say hello to sweet dreams,
I will smooth your bones,
bring peace to the poor,
temper your groans,
sooth every sore.
Sunday, 9 February 2020
Danny Two
You ask me what's new,
never one to help the poor,
always smart on cue,
you won’t say please,
confined to any floor,
no sense of ease,
wherever there’s a queue,
you’ll work that door,
bust any curfew,
bad guys on the street,
never make you pause,
when you hear the screams,
of a life detenue,
handing out the chores,
such stories make you Blue,
who knows where you've been,
with all your gorgeous whores,
you will never need,
to be someone’s glue,
drinking like some Commodore,
your head full of tunes,
working out the score.

Danny
You come to us in bits,
say ice’s in your blood,
somehow nothing fits,
try to make the claim,
that your words never stood,
much beyond the Pale,
who cares about yellow lists,
you want to do good,
but chained by your kids,
you wait another day,
some gap in life to plug,
need another holiday,
simply do what they insist,
it won’t drive you nuts,
give your days a lift,
act like someone crazy,
who needs to make a fuss,
love caters for every taste,
in this house of whispers,
do what you must,
no one needs a chorus,
our door is never shut.

Sandy Three
Never one to search for gain,
every task lent,
don't you ever feel the rain,
or get sore,
putting up the old defence,
foxing at the door,
no matter what it takes,
you’re always present,
to ungrateful ‘snakes,
fools that sing for applause,
you drink like the rest,
know the score,
no need to remonstrate,
to bring out our best,
what a player you make,
two and two is four,
you scatter us then,
never ask for more,
but when the night breaks,
your investment spent,
all those cool fakes,
will they pay the rent?
Sandy Two
You always try to calculate,
what’s squirrelled safe inside,
beyond ideas of waste,
who it is you treat,
a far from common cry,
when life is never breezy,
your lips won’t fake,
neither can they lie,
stood before the magistrate,
if only they could see,
instead of wishing to deny,
what makes you be,
terrible supplies of opiates,
vodka tonics crusty wines,
who needs them anyway,
try to follow easy,
the winter in warm climes,
Oceans that make you scream,
when you choose to rave,
can't forego what’s on the line,
nor his lordship’s taste,
drink Bacardi Lime

Sandy
What hurts most inside,
something in your face,
eyes open wide,
all you need to know,
no longer drums like rain,
on a lover’s furrow,
next to this sweetheart's lies,
I see you look away,
speechless turn aside,
a million ways to show,
absolve him of all blame,
there’s nowhere else to go,
dishevelled in your cries,
a pirate on the Main,
the barometer continues to slide,
drink away your woes,
you once jumped rail,
whisky face aglow,
try to step aside,
maybe go to Spain,
don’t ask for reasons why,
just be on your game.
Jackie Four
In the spring light,
I open the door,
see what’s on the line,
it's cold for the season,
sons and daughters,
look to their freedom,
out on the Neap tide,
a bitter truth’s sought,
they ask me why,
I’ve brought them here,
sunshine over the port,
sick of being,
without a dime,
as if they’ve been caught,
in my policy drive,
they believe,
I’m heading for the slaughter,
like a guilty plea,
but every walk of life,
ends overwrought,
maybe my wife,
will tell them the score.

Jack Three
Each year makes me a liar,
will anyone see,
the gaps between my hair,
sometimes just a little shove,
makes it heaven’s dream,
even if you don’t feel love,
terribly hard chairs,
don’t make it seem,
they can accommodate me there,
get dressed with a shrug,
what about my teeth,
grace comes with a rug,
act like I don't care,
scrubbed sparkling clean,
I sail through the air,
Joe’s my new Bud,
he might rescue everything,
rise each night in flood,
it's only fair,
when evening turns green,
take what you dare,
it's not me who screams.
Monday, 3 February 2020
Jack Two
When you start to say,
I like to dance alone,
Just give me a break,
sit by the fire,
don't go on,
you’re not a player,
not a second to waste,
it's lonely on stones,
so far from home,
listen on the wire,
the bed’s long gone,
to calm all desires,
bring us this day,
not a long silent groan,
followed by a hooray,
we are not Sapphires,
who can ever atone,
drawn to the pyre,
it'll be our holiday,
where we come from,
won't be too late,
the stuff we’ve done.

Naeve Three
You used to be fine,
to drink for fun,
a laugh bigger than wine,
no need for tea,
humour lachrymose,
jokes your repartee,
now that you find,
hearing water run,
after the wind,
is rain start to cease,
stuff carries on,
with that certainty,
to speak when it’s right,
never one to lump,
what keeps for a while,
until it is steeped,
hidden from the sun,
lost to our dreams,
where is the line,
the love that runs,
bathed in time,
to all that is gone?
