A diagnosis only half true,
I smell the Limes,
ask what's wrong with you,
act like I already know,
ties that bind,
blowhard on my bones,
hope brings a certain glue,
what can be put right,
gives me a clue,
I won't be alone,
in this cosy light,
there’s always my home,
I’m warm near the flue,
it's not a crime,
for fire to give news,
how to keep going
through evening and night,
when the kids 'phone,
I have to be fine,
coffee gets me through,
this strange time,
wonder what's due?

Time breeds uncertainty,
the shouting and fighting,
a furious unease,
its passage the blues
tells me what's right,
if you’re not careful,
winter's like heating,
steals in lilac as night,
captures the need,
find other avenues,
in a dull morning light,
who needs this curfew,
with walls made of treacle,
what's down the line,
if it's not seized,
need to sink a few,
unlock my eyes,
it's dark in this milieu,
good reasons to scream,
is there a sapphire,
to burn off the scree,
bring me fast tyres?

Will you be the same,
a smile beneath cherry trees,
each time we separate,
the dollars and dimes,
bottles stacked like wheat,
when we sit drinking wine,
now's a morning flame,
not just my feet,
that plays this tired game,
No, I'm not fine,
come back to me,
don't give me that line,
what does it take,
a dawn novena,
to have you here again,
you smile like a wolverine,
your body a litany,
now should be our time,
why can’t you remain,
the sun lies uneven,
traffic fills the lanes,
I wait for the sea.

Myriam Two
Why is it always you,
that makes it seem,
every day’s good news,
a dog with a bone,
doesn't know disease,
especially when it roams,
if the wind blows cruel,
it won't stop our dreams,
can even shed a few,
come over here dead slow,
move to a twisted beat,
catch me with mellow tones,
sing when we’ve had a few,
now is just our history,
forget the stuff we blew,
even the days you moan,
you're never creepy,
forget I’m not alone,
laugh the way you do,
it's never just the sea,
nothing seems to frighten you,
let me believe.

Paper boats across my knees,
don’t rob the child,
can't you let us be,
when you bring your news,
fury in your smile,
say it's not only you,
tamed, broken, ill at ease,
I ignore all the signs,
that make you believe,
I have to lose,
a power beyond my sign,
the Court claims the virtue,
sheds it reasons,
whispered prayers at night,
like leaves from a tree,
want no part of you,
nor your heaven's insight,
lawyers on golden avenues,
before you leave me reeling,
I beg one more time,
don't try to stop me screaming,
a life will end tonight,

Love holds the door ajar,
my hair falls down unkind,
nowhere gets me very far,
I sit on a high stool,
drink a little wine,
who needs more bad news,
you ask about my Ma,
Oh she’s fine,
wades a little through tar,
the money blew,
in a poor easy light,
how many other fools,
cruise in her fast car,
knock around her lies,
no wonder I’m scarred,
is there something cool,
to crush the hurt inside,
find that other part of you,
maybe it’s from afar,
that sees each morning rise,
constant as the northern star,
I count my time.

A painter of religious scenes,
she dabs the yellow glaze,
a thirty-year-old seraphim,
views the work that's honed,
never wise in this game,
doubts she's ever alone,
in great nights of dreams,
even when just the same,
it's not what it seems,
the canvas lets her roam,
a stretch of wooden nails,
in many ways she's gone,
to places she’s never been,
lost without a name,
a matchstick in the sea,
the work is not her own,
the pull of certain days,
like some hurricane zone,
her body aches without relief,
deep sunk eyes are crazed,
her mind is never easy,
she holds another frame.

You cross the street,
things are better the same,
salt hangs on the breeze,
danger flashes in your eyes,
something in your gait,
no need to ask why,
dash of perfume in the heat,
living glory days,
the wind is in the east,
you will hold the line,
won't be tamed,
nor held to reason why,
lovers set you free,
sparkling jewels for your days,
silk on a silken sea,
red-tiled roofs your paradise,
men chant your name,
this way you'll be fine,
speaking truth is never easy,
especially in your game,
this is not an odyssey,
fortune always plays.

Who can resist,
a warming flame,
leavened by your kiss,
hidden down a government street,
it's a terrible shame,
supplicants sway at your feet,
those who think you’re it,
turn to me and say,
something's gone adrift,
car lanes tick with heat,
sunlight grants them little space,
our time is fleeting,
let them all go shift,
you cry again,
prayer always will absolve us,
for everything we nead,
to blow our troubles away,
they'll hang you from a tree,
uncertain questions,
fill our day,
some fool seeks justice,
whatever that means.

It sometimes works a treat,
sitting stunned around a pool,
vodka tonics cocktail cherries,
what your tongue can't undo,
your bones won't fool,
this wish to denude,
on yellow sand redeem,
all that hides from you,
scrubbed white by the sea,
you can’t shake this mood,
until you hear the news,
just how much you lose,
it's hard to be discreet,
what you've been through,
so try to murmur easy,
when your fire turns blue,
let trees haunt the avenues,
they won't disguise the truth,
all that's left empty,
shake what holds onto you,
find sudden energy,
cast your chains loose.

My eyes fix a place,
where we just carry on,
no one seeks the shade,
or cares about our ways,
a river rises then is gone,
beyond any time frame,
then you stroke my face,
the running lines of alcohol,
a delta of red veins,
soon we’ll be safe,
wolf howls at the moon,
the joy of coming home,
maybe we'll take a train,
search for a winter stove,
somewhere across the Bay,
we’ll raise our game,
a trap of broken runs,
love hums better on skates,
it beats disgrace,
like some walking tomb,
can anyone really say,
we are best alone?

During these long nights,
side by side for harmony,
don't ask me why,
when there's no strain,
a blessed destiny,
shows us the way,
cool as we fly,
why bother to find honesty,
sail with blue airlines,
inquire about gain,
a long, silent history,
we won't do that again,
bags heavy with sighs,
no fun going to seed,
the useless fights,
a morning’s cold rain,
horizons once fizzingly,
splinters sun unnamed,
you say it's my right
you want to be free,
you sing from on high,
below us the sea.

She breaks the pass,
a silken form,
hair in a golden clasp,
struggling to think,
struck like a Grecian urn,
I look at the bar,
her walk is a dance,
wild without thorns,
a modern-day iconoclast,
shuddering to blink,
at what's the score,
she asks for a drink,
what I say overlaps,
churns,
my laugh’s a black cat,
gliding at the ice rink,
her eyes flare,
I wait for the clink,
at the next chance,
a cafĂ©’ sojourn,
it’s love at last,
here comes the sun.

Your life's been fair,
many a seed is blown,
then again what’s shared,
you bring the sea,
to faces bright and known,
what it is to be,
red lipstick loving care,
you laugh it down,
what you need is more,
are you for real,
ever born,
to feel each loving need,
when they make a dare,
do you moan,
dance unsteadily on chairs,
throw away your keys,
mask with scorn,
any wanton creed,
give us our daily prayer,
make us warm as toast,
not be scared,
coming home.

What it means to try,
outside the pale,
no use trying to lie,
in your bones,
who needs a trial,
to find yourself alone,
you look at the time,
other measured trails,
it seems a while,
you think you can atone,
when love fails,
and someone asks you home,
flip a coin see the sky,
talk of finding sail,
it sometimes ends this way,
drink wine out of cones,
must be some good mail,
throw stones at ghosts,
no worse than jail,
forsake the stars at night,
hit the shining rails,
praise bright smiles.

Robert Two
Tell me, tell me why,
they treat you like a seer,
my lips dance in delight,
you command a beautiful air,
bells ring out the night,
candle scent and myrrh,
who says we all die,
no call for siren's tears,
demands we have to try,
life contains its flair,
a proud engineer,
our praise held in tight,
I walk like a man gone by,
through the city's fear,
so hot it seems to fry,
will they find our lair,
songs for all their ears,
do we have a care,
this ship is full of iron,
they love orators here,
in darkness a green lullaby,
a soul comes to share.

A worn-out empty feeling,
all you wish to hide,
the pain of someone leaving,
she brings you the news,
doesn’t try,
to disguise what’s true,
never mean she lights the sea,
an artist bright as sky,
and this old has been,
looking for something new,
a need to find,
the story of his youth,
who never leaves his street,
tho' he walks each night,
what do young women need,
he’s sunk a few,
failing with the light,
on St Anthony's pews,
sheltered by her being,
like a soul on fire,
the smile of visions seen,
now retired.

Nothing’s left to fake,
sing any song you choose,
don't seek escape,
pray with all your bones,
no one counts on you,
say you're not alone,
reason comes too late,
to heal your broken drew,
like a brigand finds escape,
you're a rolling stone,
all of life’s a tune,
don't worry if you'll cope,
find some tide or sail,
any sea will do,
another lover surely waits,
a knife to the throat,
dancing closer to the blue,
what is left to hold,
except you anyway,
dangled on some pirate's slew,
slicing down the Spanish Main,
act as if you knew.
Jenny Three
I beat a useless retreat,
for all he cannot find,
nothing seems to please,
he won't bear good news,
that love just needs time,
or hear a little truth,
I fear the hiss of alchemy,
what doesn't rate sublime,
he turns into Blasphemy,
can't disguise his Blues,
or face what's on his mind,
there's never only you,
he shakes his car keys,
an open-topped warm clime,
brings no Odyssey,
rather than a loving creed,
for what might shine,
he'd prefer to bleed,
forget any sense of ease,
that isn't a crime,
I’ll face my own needs,
somewhere down the line.

Would you even care,
I'm breaking up the pattern,
It’s gone beyond a dare,
have you read my news,
within your open wallet,
I'm not in love with you,
your hand around me curls,
squeezes when I soften,
despite the way things turn,
carry on that angry you,
under trees in satin,
you'll never know what's true,
jewels won't bind this girl,
ships can sail forgotten,
so much more to learn,
I ‘m cold before your blues,
God is not for mocking,
he is gone from view,
a sourball summer swirled,
can't you see me rocking,
it isn't me you've turned,
lost among the blossom.

Dream talk don't hurt,
enough to crack,
your candy world,
silken tents you've thrown,
never collapse,
they stand in for stones,
plates you sometimes hurl,
nothing holds you back,
sweet talk makes you curl,
this life is not your own,
in many ways it's crass,
consider that part gone,
you're not that perturbed,
how much time has passed,
flags are left unfurled,
the way you smoke,
when you keep the pass,
nothing's worth that slope,
praise this song or burn,
love is on the gas,
turn the flame down,
hold it fast.

Please don't act so fine,
playing out your games,
always seeking good times,
maybe try the truth,
fixed in some lousy frame,
it's always there with you,
what never turns out right,
is far away from pain,
sleeping bad, drinking wine,
you're such a bum tune,
coming home you say,
why not bring me good news,
naked without your crimes,
no one hears your claims,
lost to your own designs,
you haven't got the blues,
waiting for a dismal train,
but it's dawning in on you,
when you run for coastlines,
or if you see the rain,
remember these lines,
whoever gains.

She knows what I mean,
how I roam,
face down every deal,
cool but burns with rage,
when I try to atone,
always opens the gate,
this is my scene,
but the nerves are blown,
just where I've been,
it's useless to hesitate,
what is on the bone,
always too late,
never safe to heed,
the mess of what I'm doing,
won’t hear me plead,
wave goodbye to hate,
leaves me all alone,
my turn now to wait,
I wonder how it seems,
now she hears me call,
can I stand the heat,
crying that she's gone?

From her white garden seat,
she carries a load,
secrets spill like poppy seed,
stuff you keep,
like fancy French cologne,
she whispers her feelings,
let others weep,
surrender perfume soaked,
to drink their whisky neat,
living by a swollen creek,
the bible has a hold,
grandma just rolls her sleeves,
a rifle next to the sheets,
she's no rolling stone,
no better cure than ease,
doesn’t bathe in love's defeat,
isolate but still at home,
time for feasts,
she measures the string beans,
no public telephones,
down fields of blue wheat,
she's not alone.

I'm not a fool at dawn,
to feel an utter mess
or be cast forlorn,
I want to be at sea,
on a wooden raft,
there's still time to dream,
summon ancient forms,
design my little crest,
sail into a perfect calm,
It’s good to speak clearly,
not roar in distress,
have to pay dearly,
I'm torn,
living a life like this,
my time isn't done,
I can play the field,
adjust my compass,
dance before tea,
gallop through a field of corn,
do you like this dress,
love without scorn,
wouldn’t that be a gas?
Friday, 5 June 2020

Don't Forget you're better,
red lipstick on your lips,
even if they stick together,
you don’t come here to booze,
kissing your fingertips,
there's more good news,
love is not forever,
where you laugh and skip,
time at all or never,
kick off Monday’s shoes,
roll around your hips,
it's the time for truth,
nothing beats duress,
getting here's a trip,
grabbing hope at its crest,
who needs a little dress,
when you paint like this,
Juke Box at your request,
would you be lesser,
if you stood there stripped,
binned all his letters,
wiser in all you miss?

Who can speak of empathy,
sitting on a wall,
a neighbour to the sea,
see your eyes come awake,
they dance on thorns,
all the stuff that’s fake,
each day of being happy,
is echoed in my calls,
then it hits me,
who wants to stake,
a life of being torn,
so I hesitate,
some old has been,
asks penny for your thoughts,
what about infidelity,
it’s a different take,
on being cast forlorn,
a bill of lading,
shivering I want to be,
not the one who’s caught,
it’s not my scene,
wondering if I'm born.

What dreams do we keep,
they ask us the ghosts,
sat on dark cafĂ©’ seats,
leave us alone thank you,
our faces might need soap,
we've heard the news,
we are not at sea,
throwing away the ropes,
just let us be,
do what we say we'd do,
faith as strong as stone,
we don’t need your views,
a ticket for the entry,
carries a ray of hope,
hanging on the breeze,
don't ask us what’s true,
or even how we know,
play some bitter tune,
we’ll set ourselves free,
ride freight trains home,
laugh loud at our beliefs,
sweep everything over.

Your face out of tone,
somewhere far from ecstasy,
tells me all I know,
chipped away by time,
the daily political commentary,
a life steeped in brine,
lipstick bright as chrome,
when they hang me,
will you stretch your bones,
on Sunday's drink wine,
until the time I freeze,
from that nebulous crime,
strum tunes on a tooth comb,
dance like a honey bee,
smell like a newborn,
your house on the shoreline,
the bottom of a road,
will you smell the Limes,
as my body lists and groans,
act carefree,
make appeals on the ‘phone,
watch morning TV?

What do you care,
the pull on my traces,
that makes me follow,
a song in blue trees,
thick lines on my face,
spun on the breeze,
if you can share,
at memory’s gate,
send me there,
in chains to the sea,
unlike your gaze,
that seeps electrically,
hard to know what's here,
when your voice is raised,
lips that snare,
down broken streets,
no one runs or hesitates,
from sugary treats,
you say I'm square,
if my tune’s so great,
why are you so unaware,
of passing days?
