The part of you we knew,
used to play it short,
raged at life around you,
in this consumer light,
you’re gone without a phone,
not very wise,
nothing gives us a clue,
no print or written law ,
is your trail well used,
did we know your plight,
or try to stop you go,
with your cards so slight,
we’ll never be so rude,
to bleat of others' woes,
hard to take the rules,
what we know of you,
let’s us not condemn,
stuff that’s hard to do,
will you come back home ?

When you see a shining star,
does it make you uneasy,
shows you just how far,
you’ll dodge,
to stay as you please,
in a warm hazy fog,
post letters to the wounded,
with a certain gravity,
let others cross that bar,
if it's what you want,
forget the cars,
all the stuff you don't,
pour petrol in the jar,
make my fires increase,
tell me what's going on,
strum me like that guitar,
live a life of Billy Jean
music by Mahler,
orchestrating for eternity,
the scattering of my needs,
ashes for my Da',
are you my rolling sea?

The year Lady passed away,
i couldn't get past the blues,
was shrunken day to day,
i wanted to be alone,
not see anyone new,
on the street or Metro,
but you are my angel,
i didn't have a clue,
you became my guide,
arranged all the loans,
brought me back anew,
put jelly on my bones,
before this game,
i didn’t think of you,
only what a waste,
then you began to erase,
all my bitter tunes,
now I go another way,
wear a different costume.

Brilliant stones,
make mud of your name,
waters shift and groan,
is trouble all you need,
solace every day,
make sure you’ll never be,
totally alone,
cafe's exist for games,
it’s best not to moan,
hold onto your creed,
listen to the rain,
take holidays by the sea,
sunshine’s good for bones,
try to stay sane,
no one wants to condone,
brains for bird seeds,
it's not the shame,
that sings you're free,
just watch me go,
dance amongst flames,
how the wind slows,
my breath again.

Blows smoke across my tears,
shares jokes in the dust,
then she disappears,
I even know the jail ,
a blanket for our love,
whose passage never fails,
what brought her here,
in the lilac dusk,
a woman once so clear,
ice blue on the rails,
a player till she's bust,
absorbed in all her ways,
no one could get near,
a spark never dull,
I swallow all my fears,
haunt me like I failed,
I did what I could,
roll tobacco in blue paper,
store away the years,
her perfume is like musk,
across the bar a cheer,
who betrayed her trust ?

He has such giving ways,
brings me Bollinger,
on my birthday,
what can we do alone,
without the sense,
of living our kiss time,
wine pours down my face,
it’s like a Christening,
he slices the Angel cake,
are we here or gone,
without a Dime to spin,
laughing at the unknown,
sample the waste,
our jellied lives crown,
when called upon to pray,
we roll and pitch astern,
like ships on the sea,
will our trips atone,
for the greatest of days,
awash with slips,
it’s easy to celebrate,
his beautiful spirit.

A painter of religious scenes,
she dabs around a glaze,
a thirty-year-old dream,
regards the work she’s honed,
abandoned to this game,
it’s never set in stone,
yellow days of sunbeams,
she always feels the same,
images not what they seem,
the canvas lets her roam,
a stretch on wooden nails,
in many ways she's gone,
a matchstick in the sea,
bobbing without a name,
floating for eternity,
work is hard to own,
laughs come day to day,
in this ocean town,
her head cries for relief,
sunken eyes stray,
her mind is never easy,
she nails another frame.

Who hasn't thought,
alone and vexed,
about what we’re taught,
a drink of red wine,
the burdens of text,
anniversaries rewind,
what we have caught,
entitled like the rest,
life’s too short,
with lovers Online,
wonder who’ll pop up next,
wasting our time,
generally divorced,
lying through a dark vest,
drunk and overwrought,
alone down the line,
I'm generally perplexed,
love’s not a crime,
with a cast of noughts,
a personality test,
is not to be forced,
trying to live our best.
Andreus
Do you remember the sea,
the swell and the spray,
our dance of Thebes,
now the kids have flown,
gone away,
have their own homes,
we dance on the beach,
at the end of the day,
our loving done on Sundays,
each part of the gloam,
is suddenly drained,
somewhere I’m alone,
you touch my knee,
show me the way,
my troubles cease,
I'm windblown happy,
I hold your face,
forget cocktail parties,
catch moments like these,
listen to what I say,
buy me chips and mayonnaise,
hear me pray.

Smoking a lucky star,
chasing numbers,
going out the door ajar,
the same calendar,
her sister says 'i wonder',
she's a great heart,
now she’s bought a car,
near the Rotunda,
should have seen her park,
right from the start,
no surrender,
she screeches the tar,
all in tears our Ma,
ten years later,
we still hear her laughter,
it finishes our Da,
the loss of a daughter,
her photo in the parlour,
love always hungers.

Since we've been away,
i don't know what to do,
but each night pray,
you break the maddened stone,
is it finished for you,
old one’s still at home,
keep the time of day,
hear them sing of truth,
nothing more to say,
no choice but to go,
always read the dunes,
roll like rolling stones,
the walls have turned grey,
love is not our ruin,
we’ve eaten all our cake,
confined within our roles,
there’s little we can do,
the desert has our bones,
you sing a song of praise
see the creep of moon,
new horizons will be great,
embrace them as our due.

Working here's no paradise,
It only takes two,
on the street’s edgy side,
it could be great
stars and sea like glue,
stardust on our plate,
all we need's a better crack,
show what we can do,
to save us from the fire,
our songs still resonate,
no feeling about what’s true ,
home’s a better place,
this district is our life,
jumps for me and you,
naked transport lights,
shower all what we create,
singing with the kitchen crew,
we won’t hesitate,
to blow our easy nights,
when we see what’s new,
even the way we try,
to stay within the loop .

You appear alone,
a picture up in lights,
or scrawled across a wall,
if love holds true,
knows which bells to strike,
soldered each part of you,
tell me you're at home,
no matter how we fight,
beat our yellow bones,
we are not for fools,
handsome before our time,
fighting off the blues,
you scream down a ‘phone,
say there is no paradise,
a flame out of control,
for all your high reviews,
dreams pass out of sight,
wind blows cold hard truth,
clouds ride black and bold,
before an early fire,
you sing less to atone,
than fill me with desire.

Here in an empty Saloon,
I fear this sad game ,
It brings me no news ,
shadows make strokes,
across the window panes,
shocked again I'm broke,
songs of a dismal fugue,
from the train station,
whistle their blues,
St Anthony alone,
says loss is certain gain,
but when you need loans,
let me hold this balloon,
dance on table shapes,
encircle with my perfume
to exist alone,
with him gone on 'planes,
is further down the road,
beyond the Dunes,
lying near the break,
will he return in truth,
will we dance on waves?

In a supermarket yard,
her lovely face moved,
by rain and the dark,
worn clothes at present,
across trolley she’s heard,
where they make bets,
a spirit with some spark,
she comes here to rest,
and just carry on,
it’s a rare clerk
not put to the test,
when clearing this park,
she won’t forget this lot,
they don’t soar like larks,
precise in their movement,
she works at Waitrose,
makes lists when off clock,
but life is no joke,
is there ever a chart,
to enumerate corrections,
gives food to no marks,
all vagrants now?

In any place,
when you figure it,
there's always an Old Lady,
while the kitchen shakes,
chefs toil in fits,
to get a living wage,
they’re all on the make,
with these new gadgets,
that circle this space,
my back quits the race,
no smile can shift,
around the pain,
it spins before my face,
a lover in a launderette,
puts me out the game,
hangs me on a door frame,
music from a tablet,
plays again and again,
it'd be wrong to say,
love doesn’t exist,
but when she sees my mate,
looks like a hit.

When you see a radiant star,
does it make you scream,
knowing that it’s too far,
with children and dogs,
just stay as you please,
in a warm hazy fog,
send my ship up there,
to the sea of tranquility,
bear with me the scars,
is this what you want,
meals and cups of coffee,
all the stuff i don't,
put whisky in my jar,
my fares have not increased,
what the hell's going on,
am I someone from Mars,
on bended knee,
playing Blues in a box car,
tend to all my needs,
put money on the bar,
bring me peace.

They say up your game,
always take your chance,
shuffle the remains,
listen to this muted song,
who would ever lance,
the need to belong,
watching the rain,
snake down a naked path,
can’t be bothered to sail,
aboard crowded bars,
cargo ships to shining France,
rooms with dark marks,
red lips white faced,
cigarettes and the dance,
waiting to slip again,
here we just bumble along,
flying by our pants,
hope we’re not wrong,
before the rivers of Spain,
polish unlit lamps,
kindness waiting,
get treated like tramps

When I say 'screw you',
It makes my troubles bright,
so much more to do,
all Chefs die intestate,
however much they fight,
useless venom at the plates,
screaming at menus,
their eyes a terrible sight,
frightened kitchen crews,
fire burns at their face,
don't ask me why,
anchors bind my feet,
even God is not immune,
debts gone from my eyes,
no longer am I duped,
wouldn't it be great,
to feel a love inside,
instead of all his rage,
our house beyond the dunes,
drifting with the tide,
death won’t bring him truth,
I’m soldered to his cry.

What you can't find,
makes you think again,
buy more wine,
don’t go home,
there's too much shame,
stick to your own,
you hear these whines,
standing in the rain,
everything's fine,
drenched to the bone,
I’ve been no angel,
soft swish of my tongue,
why try to disguise,
each day’s claim,
its roll of the dice,
I don't trust telephones,
they perish the mind,
love’s overblown,
but maybe a while,
I'll catch a fast train,
dance with the tide,
be everyone's flame

We drink together for company,
God knows if you’re right,
we always need sympathy,
what's with this couple,
who stay out all night,
only come awake at noon,
they give us no peace.
love dances as in sight,
worries don’t guide their being,
dreams sharp as new,
march out to sunlight,
won’t truck with such fools,
you say look how easy,
it is to sail the sky,
nothing stands our scrutiny,
we're so happy and cool,
in the morning fire,
everything we say and do,
you can taste the sea,
way we go up high,
you’re as scared as me,
who'll turn the tide?

Gone is the time,
I stare straight at you,
you’re a real dame,
you don’t make it easy,
to see things through,
what is in me,
a cashmere coat is fine,
to stamp out the blues,
but not in July,
you don’t do breezy,
why disguise the truth,
in the way you speak,
hard times besides,
you won’t suffer fools,
to sharpen your mind,
shake the car keys,
am I your mule,
each day’s no Odyssey,
I’ll just stand in line,
to catch more sad tunes,
drink sweet wine,
swallow your perfume.

Wear your best smile,
now out of my way,
walk the lonely miles,
in your bones,
you’re not meant to stay,
alone,
leave the good times,
for your holy grail,
don’t have a dime,
can you atone,
when it's howling a gale,
you’re that far gone,
flip a coin to the sky,
think of hoisting sail,
your blouse is just fine,
drink from a Jeroboam,
covet some desolate mail,
throw stones at your ghosts,
know how to cry,
when love’s like a snail,
you're not going to lie,
it’s worse than jail

I’m never a girl,
that curses and blasts,
my mind in a whirl,
a face set like stone,
when I feel brassed,
it's best you count now,
don't look scared,
turn away trapped,
I won’t rattle my pearls,
see your ghost,
strung out near collapse,
these lies are your own,
does your head twirl,
teeth rattle in a glass,
say prayers downstairs,
cry on the doormat,
drink tea aghast,
ask what I need most,
I’ll turn the flame down,
cook with gas,
my flags unfurled,
you can relax.

A warm weathered room,
split by sunlight,
doesn’t make me feel cool,
here in this game,
a race for your life,
I don’t hold the reins,
am not a fool,
spinning cooked over lies,
to see what you’re doing,
my eyes feel the pain,
your hands dance like fireflies,
sooth them on their way,
can you smell the ruins,
do you cry inside,
ask if someone needs you,
when others renege,
I’ll protect you at night,
a moon on the causeway,
in sandalwood dunes,
you’ll be fine,
you’ll see beloved,
we have the fire.

Why dream of empathy,
sitting on a wall,
too tired to speak,
enough to raise the stakes,
risk being torn,
the useless dates we make,
I wait for the seasons,
own a crown of thorns,
giving up on reason,
kids run about the place,
crying cast forlorn,
I have to act brave,
don’t look at me please,
as if you’ve been caught,
dreaming in the sea,
a hand that shakes,
askance at my gall,
understand I resonate,
this isn’t really me,
jellied to the core,
a flower of deep tranquillity,
asking only more.

He dances around you,
screams for loans,
say everything’s bad mojo,
sunlight, water, he’s up high,
like some waving comb,
who’ll make it right,
I walk the avenue,
my daisy head blown,
he paints me lemon blue,
drinks all the night,
will break any curfew,
forget about the fights,
when I cry for truth,
know I’m not alone,
useless to argue,
what's worse is the silence,
all gone to ruin,
his once niceness,
he’ll get his dues,
receive his broken bones,
nothing here that's new,
no longer in my zone.

Da's back in the pen,
my stomach turns to rope,
Ma stands there bereft,
if you really want class,
consider this joke,
when you turn grass,
be the first to offer,
smoke with their loans,
you the first one,
if you can’t be assed,
then leave them alone,
don’t poison the glass,
or even pretend,
the hurt is gone,
with all your mess,
the ugly crap,
sung down the phone,
don’t say it’s the last,
when needing your help,
give them some scope,
if you can’t act proper,
live on your own
