Helena
Please don't make me sign,
fading stars are nothing new,
between the moon and sky,
I enjoy being hailed,
instead of merely duped,
within a sea of nails,
don’t say it's all right,
to flush money down sewers,
better give arsenic a try,
is it my night sails,
my song that surrounds you,
breathe sweetly my oblate,
you’ll soon face the tides,
lost suddenly from view,
when you’re up this high,
it’s not me you persuade,
like other fools,
laughter turns them crude,
velvet dreams by night,
they certify my dues,
range this ocean wide,
brings me back to you.

Wouldn't it be great,
to dance on fallen snow,
say Christmas is here again,
sadly it's not a ruse,
a famous night that’s gone,
what we've got to lose,
don't worry about gain,
at supper ask for bones,
they will find us grain,
forget it is our due,
dispense a need for show,
serve our party gruel,
we’ll always walk in grace,
spit upon the loans,
consider what remains,
we can never choose,
when we’re up or down,
how we burn our fuel,
only here to celebrate,
deeds where loving grows,
champagne cognac don't be late,
will we ever know ?

My vision arrives too late,
it's not easy to believe,
what it has to say,
rolling within my thunder,
exploded like a tree,
lost in moans to numbers,
you'll find out one day,
when you see me keep,
plans you’d thrown away,
my mind's without clutter,
I hardly need to screech,
what is love from you,
won’t stand in your way,
fix your cowards retreat,
know its for your fate,
it makes me wonder,
births, marriage,wreaths,
who splits who asunder,
memories of your face,
are so easy to read,
poetry of futile names,
am glad to be free.

Elly
Smouldering like a star,
chasing numbers,
leaving doors ajar,
she's a different calendar
her boss says 'i wonder',
isn't that a great heart,
then she buys a car,
makes it her trouble,
it won't go far,
right from the off,
bewildered,
her tears flood the bar,
ten years later,
we still hear her laughter,
she doesn't do parts,
now from a false start.
surrendered,
her lipstick stark,
love always hungers.

Davina
In a supermarket yard,
her lovely face washed,
by rain and river salt,
dressed always decent,
her trolley for a brush,
she looks at their blankets,
lost spirits without spark,
they lie here to rest,
it's a rare clerk,
who won't get upset,
put to the test,
pitying their tents,
life here is stark,
in ways that they forage,
then rage like storks,
think only of the present,
tear at their crusts,
make out for the best,
last in some chart,
if life is a sequence,
she gives them her heart,
stops for the vagrants.
Charlie
Sometimes in this place,
you just don't know,
if you’ll make it,
the same with those,
who never show,
they don't understand,
if there's time to pray,
give me a blow,
while others turn up late,
how they break my bones,
do they know,
no one gets by alone,
I really need to state,
sunlight comes with stones,
life is not a holiday,
this café trade is slow,
red wine’s not to waste,
a crowded bar atones,
it’s a happy day,
listening to a jazz solo,
cigarettes to taste,
an atmosphere of home.

Bella
By the garden door,
of Saint Phillip Neri,
she sees the poor,
they cross Catherine Street,
need in their eyes,
linen unclean,
the soul of lost hordes,
someone asks why,
they slouch as they walk,
who needs pity,
when pity is sly,
dances at the beggar's party,
all of them caught,
there'll be no inquiry,
when truth is sought,
perish the guilty,
each part of their lives,
is fractured then buried,
makes a perfect nought,
a crime to identify,
the troubled and lost,
between moon and sky ?

Annie
Do you remember the sea,
the swell and the spray,
our dance of Thebes,
now the kids have flown,
gone away,
they look after their own,
we walk on the beach,
at the end of the day,
all our loving sweeps,
each part of our home,
suddenly drained,
find we're alone,
you grab my sleeve,
pull me close and say,
let's go back East,
by the wind brown coast,
I hold your face,
smell your Cologne,
to catch horizons like these,
sets me off to pray,
buy me ice cream,
celebrate our days.

Your house beyond the dunes,
sea roses beneath the sky,
picket fences ease your ruin,
a life that's been great,
absence poems always cry,
sing sweeter than the prostrate,
even God is not immune,
he puts your love aside,
some things can't be duped,
fire burns in the grate,
don't tell me how you lied,
smoke rises it gets late,
is it me or the blues,
dying in the tide,
can't you see you fool,
no voice makes me salivate,
eves hanging out to dry,
being near your fire place,
they ask how are you,
pilloried troubles slight,
what a dancing troupe,
drapes their disguise.

Yara
He has such giving ways,
brings me Bollinger,
on Christmas Day,
what can we do alone,
without relinqhuishing,
circumstances of our own,
wine pours down my face,
it’s like a Christening,
he cuts the Angel cake,
are we here or gone,
he hasn't got a pot to piss in,
we laugh at the unknown,
choose to live or chase,
summon our lives as witness,
called upon to pray,
we stumble down the road,
rattle chains from the sea,
taste to test our resolve,
my greatest days,
come when not scared witless,
huge hours to celebrate,
our restless spirits.

Who hasn't thought,
alone and perplexed,
worrying about nought,
take a drink of wine,
burdens of what's next,
Birthdays,Christmas, Valentines,
other stuff we’ve bought,
anger of the vexed,
tell us what’s the score,
men beseech Online,
act as though belessed,
demanding of our time,
generally divorced,
wearing festival vests,
drunk or overwrought,
firmly hold the line,
aren't these dating tests,
supposed to be confined,
lost at the Mall,
staring at the rest,
who will give a call,
take me to the crest ?

Wanda
The year Lady passed away,
I couldn't shift the blues,
sunk deeper day by day,
hated to be alone,
see anyone new,
on the street or Metro,
but you came with angels,
I didn't have a clue,
how to deal with rage,
you arranged the loans,
got me out the stew,
put jelly on my bones,
before she lost the game,
I thought about her due,
all she created,
then I started to drone,
couldn't eat or cook,
everything looked done,
now your tune resonates,
sings in all I do,
dances in the daylight,
so many thank yous.

Verity
When I scream 'screw you',
it's never really right
so much more to lose,
do all Chefs die intestate,
however much they lie,
spitting venom torn by rage,
explosive eulogies at menus,
owners face a terrible might,
horrified kitchen crews,
howl around this place,
numero uno starts to cry,
anchors bind his feet,
can anyone tell the truth,
doubts roll from my eyes,
no longer am I duped,
wouldn't it be great,
to feel such love inside,
all we have is plates,
a cottage beyond the dunes,
striped canvas near the tide,
will it bear me fruit ,
some would wonder why?

Ula
I paint like Marcel Duchamp,
and walk with weary gait,
smell my cologne it's damp,
bring cognac to my table,
send dishes by measured plate,
feed my tiny frame,
I'm not someone you look upon,
swaying like a knave,
singing what I’ve done,
unshaven waiters,
in this pavement cafe',
often watch me faint,
men before me unmoved,
buttered hair in trains,
mutter of how I look,
creating in an unlit space,
art a lonely place,
betrayed by certain names,
carried along by absence,
who dismiss my fame,
look at me askance,
I rise above shame.

Tammy
Windows paint strokes,
startled by falling rain,
shocked again I'm broke,
skies shadow an empty beach,
another bum holiday,
brings no news to me,
I used to be all aglow,
does love bring clemency,
when you need a loan,
songs of that dismal cheat,
echo lonely trains,
why am I here please,
they whistle and moan,
to begin again,
am I that far gone,
death shifts on plates,
or down the Freeway,
he is not my mate,
marks my bones,
makes me cold as slate,
circles my zones,
I've a generous reach,
everyone says,
and on the beat,
when someone pays

Sacha
When you see a fading star,
does it make you weep,
knowing it’s gone so far,
with children and dogs,
can't I just keep,
to a warm hazy fog,
send space ships to Mars,
please let me be,
don't need fancy cars,
that's not what i want,
only certain release,
from the stuff you don't,
I'm like someone from afar,
a spectre on bended knee,
scraping at my scars,
put water in my font,
may all your prayers increase,
tell me what's going on,
play Blues in a boxcar,
scatter all my needs,
be tranqil at the bar,
bring me peace.

Rosemary
You appear gone,
your picture up in lights,
glued to a wall.
if love holds true,
you know what I'm like,
because I'm part of you,
tell me you're still alone,
no matter how we fight,
crack our yellow bones,
we are not for fools,
dead before our time,
won't heed any blues,
you scream down a ‘phone,
roll some fancy dice,
flame into song,
for all your reviews,
dreams pass from sight,
blow a stark truth,
ride black and bold,
across a winter sky,
you sing less to atone,
chanting to the fire?

Working here's no paradise,
it only takes two,
to see our spikes,
we could be great stars,
make the sea like glue,
stardust as we part,
all it needs is better light,
show what we can do,
assist us on our flight,
our songs still resonate,
hung on trees turning blue,
gone to a better place,
this cafe' is our life,
dances for me and you,
even as a transport pike,
doesn’t matter how late,
we sing our kitchen tunes,
just give us that break,
play to easy nights,
where we catch what’s new,
see the way we slide,
well outside the loop.

Patsy
Since you've been away,
I don't know what to do,
but each night pray,
break my maddened stone,
just do it will you,
no one’s still at home,
keep the time of day,
cold skyline makes it true,
nothing more to say,
you always need to smoke,
somehow play the fool,
laugh like someone gone,
the walls have turned grey,
whisky is not my ruin,
you've eaten all the cake,
confined within this zone,
there’s little more to do,
gilded like an only one,
we sing the joy of praise,
see the creep of moon,
will you come back again,
take me as your due.

They say up your game,
you lazy sycophants,
less suffer what remains,
listening to the old songs,
who would ever lance,
such need to belong,
watching the trains,
snake down a naked gap,
sails in the bay,
swells of crowded bars,
cargo ships and shining paths,
rooms with dark marks,
red lips white-faced,
we start again to dance,
willing our tunes to play,
better to rumble along,
echoing holy chants,
say we’re not wrong,
before night's out today,
we'll polish unlit lamps,
take what comes our way,
maintain our balance.

Nancy
She's light across tears,
shares jokes in the dust,
then disappears,
we knew her from jail,
a speaker for the just,
love never fails,
what brought her here,
in the lilac dusk,
no one's very clear,
ice blue on the rails,
travels till she's bust,
she's tough as nails,
no one can get near,
a flame that never shuts,
they know what to fear,
cast aside parrot phrases,
perfume echoes the dusk.
her eyes ablaze,
she haunts me like the deer,
I did what I could,
smiling she appears,
a face misunderstood.

Maria
Aked to ferment desire,
in a place without windows,
trees surrounded by wire,
I descend by mountain mule,
to warm my toes,
used to playing it cool,
a young woman without child,
love free to bestow,
it's been a while,
his cabin is smoky blue,
my smiles won’t allow,
what our ancestors refused,
logs blaze a midnight choir,
more to life than show,
they're hard roads to fire,
I trace his arms for sinews,
chance to get to know;
my own rinse of perfume,
it’s in his dancing eyes,
do I hurt him with NO,
maybe bring in line,
more to joy than sorrow.

Lucy
Once I thought I knew,
how life's so short,
what can beat the Blues,
in this winter night,
when the kids don’t phone,
the fire gives no respite,
no books or other dues,
traces where they go,
on trails so well used,
who knows if they're right,
those who you fought,
others who asked for hire,
you were never so cool,
helped the ones you taught,
belong to other schools,
if there’s ever a time,
to parade passing thoughts,
let them shed light,
forget all the doo doo,
don't have me postpose,
happiness hung on balloons,
blown far from home

Karen
Why pay a heavy score,
my almond eyes ruined,
show you love is raw,
can you see my bones,
feel like a heavy boom,
attached to useless love,
life is not so poor,
when you have a shoe in,
escape broken laws,
say you're leaving home,
want somewhere safe to room,
until my fumings done,
don't divine me by whores,
forget the stuff you do,
I scream it’s because,
I'll block your phone,
why live out of tune,
shout go on get lost,
break holy orders,
drain summer out the moon,
I can't bear your snores,
with me anytime soon.

Journee
I'm facing terrible shame,
no star could refute,
betrayed by outrageous fame,
you might wonder why,
they speak of godly virtue,
those who know their rights,
this is no mug's game,
the TV blares fake news,
it squashes everything,
I tell terrible lies,
fashion my golden hoops,
beats any crass disguise,
sunshine shows the way,
what is there to rue,
hit them while they faint,
only fools really try,
I am only like you,
tired of such butterflies,
better shed the blame,
put it down to doom,
drink easy just the same,
eyes glazed as fish glue.

Irene
We're not your drip,
within a big sea,
the yellow light bid,
what about your lover,
with all her surly needs,
does she have your number,
what you need to live,
alongside your greed,
money can'tmint,
is the edge of wonder,
your grant of disbelief,
makes you flounder,
painted stones pieces of drift,
lay at your feet,
now you've been tripped,
a slave encumbered,
lifetime of tumbleweed,
instead of sweet slumber,
you leave us in sin,
a life gone to seed,
but we won't give in.
are more than need.

Harmony
What you call consistent,
remains on the shingle,
swallows all resistance,
searching for the sea,
sometimes in the tingle,
washing blue rinsed sheets,
if you feel listless,
try your stock of jingles,
in things that you miss,
your quotation of pieces,
do your best to jangle,
away on the breeze,
when you stand legless,
each time with the dangle,
face windswept promises,
never take the easy,
forego any ring,
its bright coloured dish,
a sunlit vista,
beyond being single,
it can't beat the hit,
knowing how to mingle

Gianna
Your star is coming home,
it trails a police light,
in gardens, you lie prone,
whisper your love,
on throwaway nights,
your ravaged face a moon,
like saints expose their bones,
a song gets you tight,
makes you drink alone,
a balcony bright with doves,
a learned moan cried,
you pray to those above,
fresh linen and eau de cologne,
always makes them sigh,
for those who are gone,
you see every move,
millions live and die,
some of them in blood,
luminous as a frozen stone,
you stand to one side,
let the ghosts pass through,
they all know why.

Ferdy
What might have been,
does not always square,
for a life tranquil,
don't sing me the blues,
you’re not that aware,
to hide away from virtue,
blowing like steam,
your nostrils flare,
eyes a silent scream,
tell me the truth,
is my voice so slurred,
who needs more proof,
I drink every evenings,
would you care,
when I say I'm beat,
look at me you fool,
is it my hair,
what do I need ro do,
can you hear the sea,,
wwill you take me there,
Its where i want to be,
are you scared?

Elise
I don't need a shrink,
tell my lover go away,
give me time to think,
what I might disown,
like a butchers display,
is sight of his bones,
I know what you're thinking,
you don't need to say,
his house is a sink,
a letter from home,
says come on love pray,
hostage only rules sorrow,
I teeter on the brink,
though whole winter's days,
slipping on an ice rink,
the stuff that I down,
trying to mitigate,
would make a Jock blink,
i'm not playing for kicks,
the surface of my rege,
is no easy trick,
my foot's on his tail.
