Who dreams of warm bars, moonshine dancing on the pier, a door always left ajar, forget that path to fame, your time's laid down here, no more running for planes, everything around not far, only dreams break clear, by bycycle or by car, give no credence to trains, that suddenly appear, like drifters across the plain, always laugh at the stars, you won't keep shedding tears, pearls form in small parts, around an exercise yard, contain your fears, whatever passes in the dark, another ship sails near.

Our togetherness marks, what gets lost with time, futile to start, as if beyond the war zone, peace replaces lies, to settle in our bones, her eyes sweep the bar, she says, with bright surprise, bums never travel far, my hand holds the phone, sweeps along the line, does she want to die alone, shiny as a celebrity's car, she asks for more wine, her smile like a box yard, who needs to be hard, when she's up this high, I look to the stars, don't ask me why.

Marianne

Why say I'm not part of you, my insides heave, home is a distant slew, waves of listless drummers, pad dream like at my feet, bad echoes from the sun, you don't need a clue, to particularly receive, your own dread news, or if there are troubles, that morbid fools greet, with memories of love, faces crash out a tattoo, mascara runs lemon streaked, the sea is cobalt blue, nothing stays perfumed, alone by the beach, i shrug at the view, 'you're history' gulls screech.

Large hands, still gait, i love your ease, coming home tenderly late, looked after, time flown, people live long around here, but houses sold then gone, you walk into the night, some other's words be free, under evening's freight, wondering if we'll ever know, how long this family cease, i've never lived alone, ask of those who wait, now released, over water today, try to hold their gaze, remember the songs and see, dissipate. all i want to feel.

Doesn't matter what you face, will it let you feel, the balm of better days, nights turning cool, beneath the trees, hot seasons coming soon, can you control the maze, the rivers release, in what you have to say, blue air melts in June, Our Lady knows your ways, where love gets tuned, solace contained, within last night's ease, streets you walk all day, the path of hidden pain, is constant as a reel, sleeping while awake, sometimes to kneel.

Your smile is beyond reach, sadness in our fortune, beyond gleanings of the wheat, hear soon the little moans, sitting in the private gloom, it echoes in our bones, the shadow of Saint Anthony, falls across this seat, summer grounds of the infirmary, then comes dawn and sleeping groans, footsteps echo in empty shoes, somehow look at silent 'phones, the doctor's say nothing, there are things they can't do, love is detached from feeling, grant what we cannot reach, in this Catholic room, proclaimed by the sea, in our heads stupid tunes.

We drag missals to your name, orange gold in buckets, celebrate your fame, even as you spit and caw, loose as a railway cutting, your scars threaten us all, nights of whisky and pain, sometimes feel you won't recover, day time isn't your game, the scent of your draw, by gas lit winter troubles, spins down a broken wall, retreating from place to place, why you say fuck it, you aggregate this shame, church can be a lonely place, artists dream of lovers, blue notes with a heavens grace, only fills the cover. .
