Tommy
You ask if we'll cope,
can you help,
to look after our home,
just be a leper,
away from the Pen,
we've no need for grease,
stay out of our zone,
you might mean well,
but we're better alone,
don't wrap us in sheets,
measure our chrome,
we know these streets,
we roll with the blow,
on bar stools and weather,
our skin needing soap,
a long gait and knees,
we are not lepers,
laughing through our broken teeth,
throw away your rope,
don't stand there bereft,
our pockets might need hope,
but there's always heaven.
Sarah
What if you care,
that pull on my traces,
don't you understand,
the tune in blue trees,
a web across my face,
spun on the breeze,
you still need to share,
heaven's no kissing place,
when you send me there,
in chains to the sea,
unlike your gaze,
those hymns to serendipity,
hard to know what's fair,
when your voice is raised,
lips that snare,
down fallen streets,
no one leaves or hesitates,
sugar sweet,
you're not a liar,
to sing so great,
were you aware,
of feeling that way?

You can sometimes squeeze,
from all breath taken,
a manner to sleep easy,
she sings take me soon,
walls washed grey,
from hospital rooms,
outside is a magnolia tree,
love marks her day,
it turns in the breeze,
it's not her tune,
this lousy disease,
the wind starts to boom,
forget the inner frenzy,
her bed's like a cradle,
you can smell the sea,
she sees sunlit avenues,
Paris, Marseilles, not somewhere opaque,
but free from bad news,
in this house that creaks,
she listens to the rain,
she turns to speak,
says this is what I want to say.

Sadie
You sift through trouble,
don't get frightened,
he'll no longer shove you,
before you throw,
him entwined,
to all that you loathe
silence is the hub,
a source for your crime,
hands that you scrub,
laugh at the cold,
hear the clock chime,
they'll never know,
remember that love,
forgives broken lives,
it sings in your blood,
before you go,
check the earth outside,
and all that he sold,
you pull on your gloves,
take your time,
shoulder what's to come,
drink some wine.

Samuel
For each little bit of you,
if anyone enquires,
give them no clue,
life isn't a stone,
taken to the fire,
why should you atone,
your little cup of ruin,
is no more than a choir,
you can still play tunes,
you know in your bones,
it poisons your desire,
but leaves you alone,
whoever reads the news,
see who's for hire,
find your own truth,
if no one 'phones,
when you try to inspire,
forget your home,
dance a poor man's Blues,
sing on the wire,
you always pay your dues,
you're not a liar.

Samantha
Drunk enough to ask why,
accept she's been chosen,
before you deny,
laugh at all her crazes,
what she tries to provoke,
with stupid phrases,
sing instead her favourite lines,
our time goes by unspoken,
accept the heaven's cry.
outside of your praises,
neither shrink nor coax,
those wonderful stations,
at the grave in time,
to verify love's soaking,
a cloud sails the sky,
what settles on your faces,
laugh at cold bones,
before you blow the traces,
a flower at your side,
just some little token,
more than any pride,
run from being broken.

Raymond
Why live in a haze,
sheltered from the wind,
battered like cellophane,
best not to moan,
or burn a holy candle,
life is only a loan,
why jump the trains,
scour the land,
for a perfect phrase,
in your worn out clothes,
enjoy the contrast,
you're not on your bones,
make a step change,
blow the ten grand,
find love instead of trade,
when someone groans,
you don't understand,
move out of that zone,
chained to your days,
can your heart expand,
in greater ways,
or not understand?
