Seventy Nine
A line on her face,
says she'll just carry on,
simply turn away,
a horizon once bright,
she navigates alone,
feels that it's right,
maybe take a train,
like the love that's gone,
once came around this way,
the picture's not kind,
she can cry but won't,
her sister's place not right,
do thoughts work this way,
the same as in war,
out on the plain,
within the harvest light,
there's hardly a sound,
under an empty sky,
who can ever say,
someone lights our soul,
when we're in pain,
or going home.

Seveny Eight
Sit silent at the bar,
and see the morning rise,
think of highways burning tar,
sunshine's just for fools,
home's a hard disguise,
who needs to hear this news,
you can keep the stars,
or want to see his eyes,
before he left my Ma,
the money tooled,
in jaded nights,
playing American pool,
I can see my Da,
everything's revealed in time,
empty hearts don't travel far,
but you're no fool,
forget the hurt inside,
that's another part of you,
love holds the door ajar,
maybe just a little wine,
don't look my way ta,
I won't waste your time. l

Seventy Seven
Someone you can't fool,
in the gentle rain,
don't know what to do,
scrubbed by fire,
you hear yourself say,
it's only my desire,
want to hear good news,
wander down the lane,
untroubled by the Blues,
like a bird on a wire,
find it hard to ascertain,
who's the biggest liar,
she boils me in a stew,
in a clearing makes haste,
what's not to choose,
she doesn't ask why,
you live without stain,
forget that patch of sky,
it won't shake you,
the earth moves again,
find what there is to lose,
when she walks away.

Seventy Six
We drink for company,
God knows we're all right,
just let us be,
what's with this crew,
she says out of sight,
we'll sleep till noon,
just leave us in peace.
fear grips our fights,
worry guides our sympathy,
dreams sharp as new,
makes each sunshine bright,
she's no truck with fools,
she says she's easy,
sailing the sky,
nothing stands her scrutiny,
we're so sad and cool,
in the morning light,
everything we say we do,
you can see the sea,
she says from on high,
is she as bad as me,
it makes you wonder why?

Seventy Five
She dances lightly treads,
her knife warm as toast,
when the oil is spread,
for all she's ever been,
and also what she's known,
it brings a sense of ease,
her daily bread,
gathered all alone,
doesn't make her bend,
she's in love with schemes,
her skin golden brown,
always on the street,
with lipstick instead,
not caring for loans,
she lights up my bed,
always visits the sea,
the waves make her frown,
at this old has been,
her visions are myriad,
with a light that's shown,
paints what she's dreamt,
her artist heart unknown.

Seventy Four
Paraded all the while,
when you hit the trail,
you ride that lonely mile,
in your bones,
you don't need a stay,
to find yourself alone,
you left her there to die,
to find the holy grail,
said studying at the time,
can you atone,
when love forever fails,
and shame marks your tome,
flip a coin see the sky,
talk of finding sail,
you can't worry about style,
drink wine from a jeraboam,
nurse some desolate mail,
throw stones at her ghost,
what it means to cry,
always finds you this way,
you're not going to lie,
it is worse than jail.

Seventy Three
What you can't find,
then think again,
go buy more wine,
don't go home,
there's too much pain,
keep what you own,
you hear of the crime,
stand in the rain,
say everything's fine,
drenched to the bone,
you're no angel,
a swift grasp of loans,
why try to disguise,
each day is a claim,
you can roll those dice,
won't trust 'phones,
they perish the mind,
love's the real groan,
it just takes a dime,
to catch a fast train,
dance to a different rhyme,
take no more blame.
