Eighty Four

Coming by train last night, i swore faithfully to Jesus, no more of that all right, a woman from Naples, rocks me easy, says everything's OK, it's a perfect delight, every part she pleases, in her eyes i'm blind, fresh linen and fables, the soul of lost seasons, my wallet on the table, she talks of a writer, called Lisa Passolini, and kisses me quietly, by the garden stable, of Saint Peter's, I see the poor unable, done beg at this site, see what you don't see, many others soar like kites, folded, boxed, serene,

Eighty Three

I don't want to know, if you really believe, I'll sink like stone, fall while you pray, console me with your heat, the house is yours anyway, when you're all alone, will you think of the sea, where no one hears you groan, or listen to you say, as you pour out moans, downtowns brief highway, do you really own, a taste bittersweet, pain in bricks and mortar, you interrogate my case, float wishes on the breeze, who are you to state, I'm only skin and bone, go on then feel free, time that I got going, so much for your creed.

Eighty Two

Love blows warm at night, howls in ancient places, waits for light to decline, when promises are broken, spirits dance their own flame, call out to ancient stones, it will be all right. all you need to say, is just give it time, beyond this war zone, and sacrificial fame, a place we best know, make us laugh in darker climes, no one here's to blame, part of me is dying, do what we can alone, it need not be our shame, rivers rise on their own, please don't turn silent, we'll find home again, return us on the tide, leap at every gain.

Eighty One

If you would only see, what lights my smile, you'd understand deceit, wolves howl at the moon, phrases break like a child, some cloak an open tomb, words thrown ill at ease, lost without their signs, in everything you believe, do they ache for truth, a power beyond my sight, even with your news, love's a bitter feed, always asking why, in whispered prayers of need, a lonely bitter gruel, i'm supposed to consign, with all loss of virtue, before you came for me, they say it isn't right, to carry love across the sea, what catches in my eyes.

Eighty

Sometimes you can play, she'll try but she won't, leads ife like a game, now that's she's tight, she'll navigate alone, only keep what's right, maybe feel again, her winter bones, what'll come this way, like the summer light, with hardly a sound, except a gentle why, live it only one way, bearing her wounds, everyone feels pain, where there's coming night, the same in every war, when peace is in sight, who can ever say, who will stay or fall, it's good to move away, others carry on.

Seventy Nine

A line on her face, says she'll just carry on, simply turn away, a horizon once bright, she navigates alone, feels that it's right, maybe take a train, like the love that's gone, once came around this way, the picture's not kind, she can cry but won't, her sister's place not right, do thoughts work this way, the same as in war, out on the plain, within the harvest light, there's hardly a sound, under an empty sky, who can ever say, someone lights our soul, when we're in pain, or going home.

Seveny Eight

Sit silent at the bar, and see the morning rise, think of highways burning tar, sunshine's just for fools, home's a hard disguise, who needs to hear this news, you can keep the stars, or want to see his eyes, before he left my Ma, the money tooled, in jaded nights, playing American pool, I can see my Da, everything's revealed in time, empty hearts don't travel far, but you're no fool, forget the hurt inside, that's another part of you, love holds the door ajar, maybe just a little wine, don't look my way ta, I won't waste your time. l
