Ninety Eight

You don't get much view. from these scenes, or in this kitchen, you arranged the loans, introduced the dancing queens, put jelly on my bones, saw in me something new, on the street or Metro, you were an angel, far away from home, trying hard to catch the breeze, couldn't burn toast, hadn't got a clue, in that 'eighties dream, i only thought of you, wonder where you'll go, or who you'll believe, shake out all I know, your dress is golden blue, i can't see past the trees, am shrunken by my dues, guess i'll always be.

Ninety Seven

When you say 'screw you', make all your troubles light, there's so much more to do, do all chefs die intestate, however much they lie, throwing venom at the plates, come to scream at menus, their eyes a terrible high, a frightened kitchen crew, fire burns around this place, don't tell me how he cries, anchors bind his feet, even God is not immune, debts gone from his eyes, no longer is he duped, wouldn't it be great, to feel his love inside, instead of all this rage, your house beyond the dunes, lying near the tide, will death bring you truth, or hang you out to dry?

Ninety Six

Am i first in line, to capture your Blues, please pass me that wine, you shake the car keys, act like a fool, each day is no Odyssey, that stretch inside, you used like a mule, hasn't sharpened your mind, you don't do easy, why disguise the news, by shooting the breeze, clothes cashmere fine, stamp out your truth, each turn of the dice, now you come to me, what you cannot intuit, as if no one can see, gone is the time, i'll act like a tool, your Pa's the real crime, i'm just not in tune.

Ninety Five

My calling comes too late, it's not easy to squeeze, what I need to say, you recoil at my thunder, exploding like a sneeze, lost by luck or numbers, you'll find out one day, if you let me keep, all the plans you desecrate, a life uncluttered, my insides screech, who needs love, I'm not cut out this way, to beat a cowards retreat, or bound fast to the day, it makes you wonder, stones, graves, wreaths, who splits who asunder, memories that you face, not so eager to please, the perfume on your lace, hides a conceit.

Ninety Four

Wouldn't it be great, to fall like fresh snow, tumble in the rain, say it's not a ruse, a dream of passed night's gone, playing homesick blues, don't worry about gain, at supper ask for bones, stumble on how to pay, forget how much we owe, or the need to show, we'll polish up the jewels, always lie in state, spit upon the loans, celebrate what remains, we can never lose, or say we've been let down, it's only what we do, your earrings hang ornate, in rooms where flowers grow, champagne cognac to chase, it's all ours you know.

Ninety Three

Before anyone knows, you'll have the time, you hear a cock crow, the stars show the way, cold on the stones, you're coming home to stay, no need for a coxcomb, you'll walk the miles, in clothes you don't own, won't make claims, your face alight, in how to be brave, there is no window, your face doesn't shine, no other soul so bright, never mind future days, you're no longer a child, even when you pray, so there you go, it helps to look kind, you're just not a scarecrow, who loves to drink wine.

Ninety Two

Please don't identify, one star is nothing new, between the moon and sky, you could enjoy the view, instead of being cruel, when you're up this high, say it's all right, to rip out the sewer, give lightning a try, you would race the tides, without any fuel, like anger on a wedding night, put it out of mind, give to some other fool, bitter dreams by candlelight, you split this ocean wide, laughter makes it true, juggle before your eyes, why not let perfume, sing a different you, you can dance on wire, doing what we do.
