Robert Three

A worn out empty feeling, for all you wish to try the pain of someone leaving, she brings me the news, like a gunman hides, when he knows the truth, never mean she lights the sea, an artist bright as sky, for this old has been, looking for something new, a need to find, she hears the Delta Blues, who never leaves her street, tho' she works and sighs, with what young women need, it has killed a few, failing with the light, at St Anthony's pews, shelters me with her being, like a soul on fire, the smile of a living queen, she asks me to retire.

Tell me, tell me why, they treat you like a seer, my lips dissolve in cries, I command a beautiful sight, candles scent and myrrh, bells ring out the night, who says we all die, no call for stolen tears, demand a veil of sky, my life contains its height, a yellow-robed proud engineer, my grief held in tight, I walk like a man gone by, through the city's fear, so hot it seems to fry, will they see my light, slash or burn my ears, ask me to stand and fight, our ship is full of iron, they love orators here, in darkness and green light, I'm ready to come near.

He seeks a hopeless retreat, for all he cannot find, nothing seems to please, he won't bear good news, that love just needs time, or hear a little truth, fears the hiss of blasphemy, he doesn't rate sublime, or give anyone a treat, can't disguise his Blues, or face what's in his mind, there's never only you, he shakes his keys, December in a warm clime, brings no Odyssey, rather than a loving creed, for what might chime, he'd prefer to bleed, forget any sense of ease, that isn't just a crime, gains explosive release, bathing in strong wine.

Nothing more to give or take, sing a song by Frieda Payne, seek an eternal escape, pray upon her bones, she won't be coming home, tell them you're not alone, reason says it's not too late, to heal your broken gaze, like a brigand reeks escape, you're not a rolling stone, all of life is hope, don't worry if you'll cope, find some tide or sail, an open Ocean to play, another lover surely waits, a knife to the throat, dance closer to the flame, nothing's left to hold, you'll be there on Easter day, not dangled on some pirate's rope, treasure's in the way, you blow a trail of smoke.

Do you even care, I'm breaking up the pattern, that's gone beyond a dare, have you read my news, within your open wallet, I'm not in love with you, your hand around me curls, squeezes when I'm startled, despite the way things turn, carry on won't you, under trees or car parks, you'll never know what's true, jewels won't bind this girl, ships roll by forgotten, so much more to learn, I go cold before your blues, God is not for mocking, won't believe it will you, the banner lies unfurled, can't you see me rocking, it isn't me you've turned, lost among the blossom.

Dream talk doesn't hurt, it's enough, Basta, you're not a candy whirl, silken tents you've blown, never collapse, face moulded like a stone, plates you sometimes hurl, nothing holds you fast, sweet talk makes you curl, say life is not your own, in many ways it's crass, consider that part gone, you're not perturbed, now this time has passed, flags are not unfurled, dance on brown chairs, sing a song like glass, your face to the air, the way you smoke, when you sell the pass, nothing's worth that dope, keep this love or burn, love is on the gas, turn the flame down, make it last.

Please don't act so fine, playing out your games, always seeking good times, maybe try the truth, fixed in some lousy frame, it's always there with you, what never turns out right, is far away from pain, sleeping bad, drinking wine, you're such a bum tune, coming home you say, why not bring me good news, naked without your crimes, no one hears your claims, lost to your own designs, you haven't got the blues, waiting for a dismal train, but it's drawing in on you, when you run for coastlines, or if you see the rain, remember these lines, whosoever gains.
