Raith Three

A diagnosis only half true, she smells the Limes, asks what's wrong with you, acts like she knows, the ties that bind, blow hard on her bones, hope brings you truth, what can't be put right, except there's no clue, she won't be alone, in this cosy light, sits watching the crows, has to keep going through evening and night, when the kids 'phone, she sits near the flue, it's not a crime, for a fire to bring news, says she'll be fine, drink gets her through, a strange time, to wonder what's due?

Time breeds uncertainty, the shouting and fighting, the furious unease, don't need the news, to tell me what's right, or sink down a few, winter's like the heating, lilac as the night, it captures the need, find another avenue, some morning light, who needs this curfew, the walls are like treacle, what's down the line, before it's seized, need to find the screw, unlock my eyes, it's dark in this milieu, good reasons to scream, wonders if there's fire, or head for the sea, got to keep happy.

Will you be the same, a smile beneath the trees, each time we separate, the dollars and dimes, bars stacked like wheat, we sit drinking wine, now it's a morning shame, not just my teeth, that plays this tired game, No I'm not fine, come back to me, don't stay with that Line, what does it take, a dawn novena, to have you back again, your smile like a porcupine, your body a litany, now is the time, why can’t you remain, where the sun rises even, cars fill up their lanes, I wait for the sea.

You say it’s time to leave, don't really want to go, not part of my creed, you send me anyway, to live or die alone, make my own grave, our love is bittersweet, no real need for home, children, big dreams, shifting sounds of the day, you dance on sunlit bones, i'm here to stay, sing along to the sea, the only song I own, it's not me that's weeping, sing along and pray, the time to roam is done, that's what I say, please don't try to push me, I only weigh eight stone, who are you to believe, tears irrigate my soul.

Fear is dark around the bight, makes me swallow ancient flame, wait for lamps to shine, when I'm near to you, I'm coming back to stay, colour makes for different hues, and this life dead right, it takes a moment to pray, drink a little sweet wine, there are no avenues, I can't explain, trying for good news, laughter's sometimes a bitter rhyme, no one's here to blame, for part of me crying, don't need fire to hide, or put my thoughts away, we'll return on the tide, beyond this moonless night, I need you to state, not remain in silence, we'll go home again.

Why is it always you, that makes it seem, you'll never ring the Blues, cold weather animals live alone, they don't know disease, always know where to roam, even if the wind blows cruel, it won't stop your dreams, everyone sheds a few, come over here dead slow, scream on bended knee, nothing beats a loving tone, sing when you've had a few, now is just our history, you always bring good news, even on days you 'phone, you're never creepy, forget you're not at home, laugh the way you do, it's never just the sea, no desert frightens you, or makes you believe.

A paper tort across my knees, why take from me the child, can't you let us be, when you bring this news, fury in your smile, say it's not just you, tamed, broken, ill at ease, you ignore all the signs, believe what you want to believe, even if I lose, a power beyond my sign, you always claim the virtue, to wrap around your knees, whisper prayers at night, carried like some disease, the terms you nearly blew, become your heaven's insight, speedy lawyers man the crew, before you have me reeling, I beg for one more time, you won't stop me screaming, a life will end tonight,
