Francine

Times that brought her, a yellow light of feasting, she dreams of autumn, let others condone, that passing disease, of a broken home, more than any daughter, she'll do what's needed, forging her laughter, a shiny stone, she stands by the sea, swears she'll never atone, love seeps on the bend, it reaches her knees, like broken water, for matters gone, she knows what she’s leaving, some hoped for dawn, fixated or in prayer, she cries when released, wonders if anyone cares, s it isn't that easy.

God knows if she's right, she can demand anything, sunlight, water, sky, like the tide off Burbo Bank, her smile is estuary wide, begins where I sink, she never leaves my side, but sits here and sings, a woman on fire, her lungs like a tank, she bellows for a ring, could prise open a bank, next to me she slides, her lips twist like centimes, around a constant lie, tobacco blonde eyes cranked, a dancer whose fame decides, many a famous wank, she dances in the tide, her day is just beginning, nails me with that smile, fresh, alive, giving.

Signs to fly away from, we won't make sunset, scattered and gone, the associate’s due, his astonishing jet, a whispered thank you, fire and distant thunder, meets our target, the unfettered amongst us, beyond this daily blues, our days not met, fighting over what we do, I wash myself down, no matter the bet, if I'll last this shift, how the world cruises, through our little knot, nights presage a morning slew, on her sleeve’s a wrong, no one tells her yet, I think of the bonds, in houses we let.

Your smile lets you prance, for fear of being caught, by smart tongued chit chat, make all the bean counters, you show around the course, look and turn around, what wounds you’ve lanced, singing yourself hoarse, others call it balance, when those who rant, make you go taut, forget their glib answers, hold your nerve and ask, is this what they’re taught, sip vodka from a flask, regret those missed chances, work out the score, how to turn it around, don’t try to dance, those who are caught, will always fly to France, their eyes frozen.

A cold wind blows, it stokes my fear, who remains in the know, pearl doves arc above, where else is clear, so far away from love, give money for school clothes, everything’s so dear, there are no bad ones, sail with those who live, fresh linen ups the gear, always makes them give, is my vision slow, you need to be clear, we are never alone, blown across the bluffs, don't worry who comes near, someone will look after us, wear long coats to show, summer comes each year, try to touch the soul, with shiny frozen tears.

I don't need a shrink, but a lover that sways, give me time to think, what I might disown, like a brew man’s dray, an arm full of barrels, I know what you're thinking, you don't need to say, my house is a sink, a letter from the town, makes a window display, when hostage rules sorrow, I swerve on the brink, though whole summer’s days, plates gather and stink, the stuff that I down, would make a choirboy drink the heat off my brow, it takes a gold cufflink, to lift open my gate, face like an ice rink, make this ship sail.

What might have been, is not always fair, for a life of ease, don't sing me the blues, you’re not that aware, to turn from virtue, blowing like steam, your nostrils flared, eyes a simple scream, tell me the truth, is my voice so slurred, who needs more proof, I drink on sad evenings, would you care, when I lay beat, look at me I seethe, is it my thin hair, do I need new teeth, can you love me, think you’ll dare, the way I aim to be, are you scared?
