Don't pray in the rain, or swear upon your mother, stuff you can't take, hope she can use, costs that you smother, places without refuge, see that portrait, on a wounded cover, it’s got your name, whatever you choose, don't curse or bother, who pays the dues, whisky fires the brain, the good live without trouble, then blaze away, no book or dawn curfew, makes you wonder, despite all the feuds, gains that you'll make, fly like new lovers, spirits on the freeway, can’t mask the thunder.

Fire and evening light, when you play my tune, don’t even have to try, longing for my phone, it doesn't have Bluetooth, a Nokia monotone, the beach comes to life, cool grains soothe, above us Freeway lights, bring grace to our bones, accept all that we do, even to atone, a return to paradise, we never make the news, just live a better life, to shelter all that's gone, something we can glue, instead of being alone, you’re not always nice, blurt out what’s true, feed the warming pyre, know what it is to lose.

Why dredge the malls, sit down in the rain, hover at infirmary's door, you are never at home, it’s just a shame, stuff that makes you roam, what am I saying this for, there’s nothing to gain, while you run with whores, can't you be alone, dance away my pain, recognise love’s a loan, you know the score, your face a savage shade, I’m paying you roar, don't spit on the floor, or cry out my name, you’re not the same anymore, if you slip you’ll fall, I never want to say, the time is too raw, to face myself again.

Sometimes I ask why, can we ever atone, when stars burn like ice, It would be great, to light our bitter home, night and day, but not blessed with foresight, the wind runs cold, you pour another wine, are kids and dogs your game, your eyes look old, listen just the same, when you hear me cry, don’t ask too much of love, it's not enough to sigh, hammer shiny nails, help me with the loans, this place is not a jail, no matter how we fight, or beat our yellow bones, we can do what’s right, quietly in the zone.

Sad songs in my car, hot water in my tank, doesn’t leave a tide mark, washed by your stupid ways, a ticking from the crank, awful terrible waste, you steer within the dark, make even sunshine dank, scatter ashes on the bar, what is left to say, my mind fills up blank, clings to a brighter day, Oh you are a dog, a million ways to crack, split me like a log, brought me to this state, as if I was a bank, it’s bust anyway, we never know how far, what lies down the track, to see what's going on, or who else to thank?

Katie

Please don't identify, one lonely swimming pool, between me and the sky, tell me it’s nothing, lies ripped from a sewer, you never offer, to stay for these nights, no one unused, stuff that makes you feel right, don’t want me to suffer, shed all bad dreams too, act like a winner, bring sweetness to the light, grant my purview, buttered dreams sweet fire, savour the offer, to say what's true, instead of phoney proverbs, don’t ask me why, I fear losing, my toes stretched up high, this long afternoon

Can you bring serenity, to this creature in a jar, rescued from the sea, like someone in a grave, bears a different mark, something you can't name, one who sets you free, like a bell from far, back to childhood dreams, maybe it's a different age, we drive around in cars, but I still feel strange, nothing fills my need, 'cept a salty bog, somewhere I can scream, to dance by the waves, sails wrapped around a spar, rid the stuff that's wreckage, the only thing real, this little stickleback La, swimming around a jammy, who needs a Da?
