I'm not a fool at dawn,
to feel an utter mess
or be cast forlorn,
I want to be at sea,
on a wooden raft,
there's still time to dream,
summon ancient forms,
design my little crest,
sail into a perfect calm,
It’s good to speak clearly,
not roar in distress,
have to pay dearly,
I'm torn,
living a life like this,
my time isn't done,
I can play the field,
adjust my compass,
dance before tea,
gallop through a field of corn,
do you like this dress,
love without scorn,
wouldn’t that be a gas?

Don't Forget you're better,
red lipstick on your lips,
even if they stick together,
you don’t come here to booze,
kissing your fingertips,
there's more good news,
love is not forever,
where you laugh and skip,
time at all or never,
kick off Monday’s shoes,
roll around your hips,
it's the time for truth,
nothing beats duress,
getting here's a trip,
grabbing hope at its crest,
who needs a little dress,
when you paint like this,
Juke Box at your request,
would you be lesser,
if you stood there stripped,
binned all his letters,
wiser in all you miss?

Who can speak of empathy,
sitting on a wall,
a neighbour to the sea,
see your eyes come awake,
they dance on thorns,
all the stuff that’s fake,
each day of being happy,
is echoed in my calls,
then it hits me,
who wants to stake,
a life of being torn,
so I hesitate,
some old has been,
asks penny for your thoughts,
what about infidelity,
it’s a different take,
on being cast forlorn,
a bill of lading,
shivering I want to be,
not the one who’s caught,
it’s not my scene,
wondering if I'm born.

What dreams do we keep,
they ask us the ghosts,
sat on dark cafĂ©’ seats,
leave us alone thank you,
our faces might need soap,
we've heard the news,
we are not at sea,
throwing away the ropes,
just let us be,
do what we say we'd do,
faith as strong as stone,
we don’t need your views,
a ticket for the entry,
carries a ray of hope,
hanging on the breeze,
don't ask us what’s true,
or even how we know,
play some bitter tune,
we’ll set ourselves free,
ride freight trains home,
laugh loud at our beliefs,
sweep everything over.

Your face out of tone,
somewhere far from ecstasy,
tells me all I know,
chipped away by time,
the daily political commentary,
a life steeped in brine,
lipstick bright as chrome,
when they hang me,
will you stretch your bones,
on Sunday's drink wine,
until the time I freeze,
from that nebulous crime,
strum tunes on a tooth comb,
dance like a honey bee,
smell like a newborn,
your house on the shoreline,
the bottom of a road,
will you smell the Limes,
as my body lists and groans,
act carefree,
make appeals on the ‘phone,
watch morning TV?

What do you care,
the pull on my traces,
that makes me follow,
a song in blue trees,
thick lines on my face,
spun on the breeze,
if you can share,
at memory’s gate,
send me there,
in chains to the sea,
unlike your gaze,
that seeps electrically,
hard to know what's here,
when your voice is raised,
lips that snare,
down broken streets,
no one runs or hesitates,
from sugary treats,
you say I'm square,
if my tune’s so great,
why are you so unaware,
of passing days?

We truly chant and swear,
first ones hit the spot,
others just don't care,
no drama or lucky stars,
our debts a mounting cost,
the journey's always far,
a moon bright under glare,
each place lit with dots,
no one hides in here,
whoever makes a mark,
another folds the cards,
there are no easy starts,
lemon fears laid bare,
rusty nails our lot,
weak are those who share,
danger near or far,
before any littered cot,
fairy queen Jack Tars,
bones stripped bare,
on walls sweating lust,
forget previous dares,
this one is rubbed out.
