My lover asks, were you even born, when you say nothing lasts, are these your ghosts, the dreams you’ve torn, that won't leave you alone, I adjust my mask, stroll down the lawn, I heed no Covid past, don't throw stones, at what you've known, it stops you growing, I enjoy these chit chats, am no fool to pawn, a ticket like that, with love in my bones, I’ll create a storm, everyone needs a home, the key’s on the mat, don’t look forlorn, I don't do aghast, or play the trombone.

You ask how I cope, If you could only help, to take me back home, why make me suffer, you little vixen, no need for your butter, stay out of my zone, I know you mean well, but I’m better alone, the words that you utter, don't come from a pen, they make my heart flutter, measure my chrome, put me in a spell, leave me in the open, I start to stutter, on bar stools of leather, you and my mother, my skin might need soap, but I’m not tethered, I laugh at your rope, save it for your friends

I can sometimes feel, from each breath taken, a moment's ease, that makes me swoon, face washed happy, even in hospital waiting rooms, outside is a magnolia tree, life shows the way, sunlight hangs on trees, they’re playing my tune, forget lousy disease, the wind goes boom, passion is needed, my bed is a reel, I can smell the sea, dance on golden avenues, Paris, Marseilles, Fleur de Lys, all add to good news, the house timbers creak, tack tack falls the rain, I turn to speak, love is what stays.

What do you care, don't hold me in traces, you wouldn't dare, your tune is not easy, blue folds my face, spun by the breeze, say you need to share, this kissing place, why put me here, in chains to the sea, unlike your gaze, a hymn to what’s seized, I know what's fair, when your eyes glaze, lips that snare, on swollen dreams, no one escapes, sugar sweet, I’m no liar, to sing so great, are you aware, what you take?

You sift through trouble, don't get frightened, none will tell on you, before you throw, and strew into the fire, all the stuff you loathe, silence is your hub, a source of brine, hands that you scrub, laugh at the cold, hear the clock chime, no one will ever know, remember summer love, forgive his broken wife, he sings in your blood, before the river flows, check the earth and tides, all the lies he told, pull on your gloves, take your time, shoulder what's to come, drink a little wine.

For each little bit of you, if anyone enquires, don’t give them a clue, life isn't a stone, thrown into the fire, why should you atone, your little cup of ruin, is more than a choir, you still have the tunes, know in your bones, what poisons your desire, does it make you groan, whoever gives the news, to see who's for hire, find your own truth, if no one 'phones, try to inspire, leave well alone, dance down the avenues, sing on the wire, you’ve always paid dues, you're no kiss ass liar.

Sober you ask why, the way it’s been chosen, before you can deny, stare at dead places, you’re mouth frozen, with stupid phrases, sing my favourite lines, our time done with roses, lovely when you try, at all the great stations beyond children hopeful, you neither shrink nor waste, even the graveside, you witness love's cloaking, clouds sail the sky, what settles on your face, neither time provokes, you blew over the traces, a flower at your side, just some little token, more a wish to verify, what lies broken.
