We share jokes and put, hopes on those disappeared, geese rise among the just, no one owns a crown, to be ushered in here, put others down, those of us fussed, we'll always hold dear, forget what's been lost, in our Ocean town, everyone else is clear, there is no sound, someone to trust, who walks like the deer, with no trace of musk, the one with the show, brushes away fear, says you’re never alone, laughs at failing years, each night is a must, to bathe in happy tears, dance before the dusk.

My eyes shine dominate, in rooms where flowers grow, champagne cognac women to chase, wads of cash we blew, still the need to know, keeps us from the news, we’re always just too late, picking up the ‘phone, to live with what remains, we never seem to use, how we spent the dough, it’s no longer our perfume, why worry about the grains, at supper chide the groans, whistle off our pain, say it’s all a ruse, dreams have gone and flown, so much a taste of you, show them that we're great, live our life and show, how to embellish the tales, take them on the road.

Don't lie in the rain, swear upon your mother, stuff you can't fake, hope she can use, costs that you smother, a place without refuge, see that portrait, on a life style cover, it’s got your name, whatever you lose, don't curse or bother, who pays the dues, whisky fires the brain, it’s good without trouble, blazing away, no book or dawn curfew, masks the thunder, bury the feuds, gains that you'll make, fly like new lovers, a spirit on the causeway, fills you with wonder.

Fire and evening light, when you play those tunes, don’t even have to try, looking for my phone, I don't have Bluetooth, just a Nokia monotone, the beach comes to life, cool grains soothe, above us Freeway lights, bring ease to our bones, accept all that we do, even when stoned, a return to paradise, we never make the news, just a better life, to shelter all that's gone, something we can glue, instead of being alone, it’s not always nice, to blurt out the truth, scan newspaper files, what it is to lose.

Why dredge the malls, sit down in the rain, hover at the hospital’s door, you are never at home, it’s just a shame, cool stuff makes you roam, what am I saying this for, there’s nothing much to gain, while you run with whores, can't you be alone, dance around my pain, recognise that love has croaked, you know the tone, your face in savage shade, eyeballs on the bone, don't spit on the floor, or cry out my name, I’m not with you anymore, when you slip you’ll fall, I never want to say, this time is too raw, face myself again.

Sometimes I ask why, can we ever atone, when my tongue’s like ice, wouldn’t it be great, to light our bitter home, night and day, but not blessed with foresight, the wind runs cold, I pour another wine, are kids and dogs your game, your eyes look old, listen just the same, when you hear me cry, don’t ask too much of love, it's not enough to sigh, hammer shiny nails, help me with the loan, make this place a jail, no matter how we fight, or beat our yellow bones, we can do what’s right, quietly all alone.

Sad songs in my car, hot water in my tank, nothing leaves a tide mark, touched by your stupid ways, a ticking from the crank, an awful terrible waste, you steer within the dark, make even sunshine dank, scatter ashes on the bar, what is left to say, my mind is empty blank, clings to a brighter day, Oh you are a dog, a million ways to crack, split me like a log, brought me to this state, as if I was a bank, I’m bust now anyway, we never know how far, what lies down the track, to see what's going on, who we have to thank?
