Living here's no paradise,
never makes the news,
why try being nice,
might as well be space,
useless stars, sea and moon,
ladle food to our plate,
we need a better life,
no matter what we do,
many fall away from spite,
our song still resonates,
a feeling beyond the Blues,
when looking over the gate,
this town is our life,
always something here for you,
even naked sodium lights,
what we want to create,
is sing within our blood,
in order to relate,
home is on easy nights,
when we search for truth,
forgive everyone before we die,
searching for our youth.

Wouldn't it be great,
to forget how much we owe,
share out what remains,
resist the need to wrong,
water skins our bones,
keeps within our song,
I watch for the rain,
tumble down a stony slope,
hope it finds the drains,
we'll just bumble along,
walk with what we know,
love makes us strong,
fling the time away,
greet the evening fallow,
trains are always late,
I’ll never let you down,
or worry about the loans,
you've no need to frown,
my red lips shine ornate,
blush with falling snow,
a whisky drink to chase,
we'll never be alone.

Standing by an unlit lamp,
a tree, a bridge, shaking,
await my fellow tramps,
listen to some muted song,
who would ever negate,
a need to belong,
better take a chance,
we can plays this game,
maybe visit south of France,
hope we're not wrong,
looking at the rain,
stream against a wooden bar,
ask how much this path,
will shuffle our remains,
without many wounds to lance,
someone will come along,
maybe even praying,
put something in our pocket,
cigarettes and laughs,
beer sipped like champagne,
try to make life dance,
praise each coming day.

Hope
If I’m set to freeze,
soul strung without fire,
you'd better set me free,
in your eyes amour,
you know what's right,
calculate uneven scores,
rock me gently,
say everything ‘s fine,
say don't worry baby,
your heart is my cause,
bound and entwined,
like jelly on the floor,
perfect and serene my queen,
you exert quietly,
do what others have dreamed,
a perfect lightness,
have I just seemed,
to float on water,
a star across the sea,
I swear to the night,
let me reach the quays,
this is my time?

You won't let me fail,
if anyone asks to dance,
in rooms of evening pale,
you always play the fool,
wait for kindness to pass,
no path too smooth,
nothing more to say,
except a glance,
at what you do today,
I rage against the news,
empty as a lonely repast,
my eyes set on you,
life is finely weighted,
your face tanned,
I'll inform you later,
what you must do,
pull over make a stance,
tell me you're no fool,
whirl me 'round again,
test me for balance,
say what you need to say,
if you want a chance

You scream the news,
in troubled nights,
as if you knew,
all the different songs,
left hanging on the line,
you let loose and gone,
fire burns in the flue,
don't tell me how to cry,
when you sing the blues,
it’s not me who's locked,
swimming against the tide,
losing everything lost,
no matter what you use,
however hard you try,
no one is immune,
who cares who is crocked,
something deep inside,
shines outside my shock,
I won't hit that tune,
clouds furl the sky,
death brings no easy due,
especially if you lie.

I throw away the years,
every age has its crust,
the laughs and happy tears,
no life is too short,
for those who you trust,
in our toil of waters,
you run like the deer,
carry a smell of musk,
in hazy bars so dear,
I know what you taught,
spinning pennies in the dust,
laughing never overawed,
what brought you here,
on this tidal flood,
somone so sincere,
no book or district Court,
hides the fact you’re bust,
what you sought,
blow flame across my fears,
bring me all the luck,
I hope before you disappear,
geese ride on the dusk.
