Xolani

I dream of his class, silken war torn, listening to him gasp, struggling without scorn, broken unsought, makes me feel reborn, removing the traps, dancing on thorns, he’s a modern-day iconoclast, what have I caught, riding this storm, useless dime a penny thoughts, you say it overlaps, now that he's gone, hiding under Burlap, at the church next door, I'll remove his form, love hits the floor, he broke his fast, I fed him corn, now I’m aghast, shaking unsure.

Out by the long lights, side by side in harmony, we are cool as anthracite, why take a train, or sail for the lee, when you can jump a plane, so far we're all right, who needs reason, we act like socialites, it's fun being away, we don't ever concretely, inquire about pain, a cruel silent night, doesn’t stand scrutiny, blue dawn can’t buy, our horizon’s frayed, diamond sun's all-seeing, it pierces the strain, we want to be free, we say from on high, below us the sea, don’t ask me why?

My eyes try to fix a place, where we just carry on, a price one has to pay, who cares for the cones, who rise like birds on Babylon, beyond western pay phones, when you see my face, the silver rings of ruin, all will all become plain, a time to stay alone, wolves howl at the moon, don't like being at home, maybe I'll take a train, find last winter's love, sail around Biscay, who knows where I’ll go, a sojourn of broken rungs, heavy as a stone, when you kindle flame, bleach hair and use a comb, who can ever really say, where we come from ?

That’s behind you now, it's over no more duels, a breeze makes you scowl, on golden sand you dream, all that hides in blue, scrubbed gently by the sea, it's easy to be thrown, what you've been through, why not get brown, home swells with yellow leaves, they carry all the news, just let me be, what you can't undo, or let your tongue refuse, is beginnings of a prelude, why not wax and seal, offer them your perfume, put them on the wheel, concoct some faithful tale, where everything is good, no one lets you down, no one makes you lose.

Who can resist, my diminished fame, whatever crumbles in the mist, hidden by dunes and scree, realms of useless probate, gather at my feet, beware of those you kiss, please don’t turn and say, I am being a realist, this quayside ticks with heat, sunshine cuts a million shapes, my faraway look all seeing, let everything go amiss, I say again, rage won't absolve us, everything we see, we'll see again, include our vaulting envy, uncertain misfits, play their games, dreams lost in wickedness, I beg for my name.

You cross to the lee, things are never the same, salt drifts on the breeze, danger is in your eyes, fame is in your gait, has it brought another spy, perfume from last night’s heat, bourne on gentle waves, love beckons at your feet, how you hold the line, you cannot say, even if you tell a lie, a prayer outside the sacristy, bright jewel for your ways, silk on a darkened sea, beyond the burning pyre, someone chants your name, sandalwood rises, truth is never easy, essence of turbulent days, chained to your odyssey, you dance to flames.

Rosalie

A painter of religious scenes, she dabs another frame, stands quiet without relief, regards the thing she's honed, tired of other games, doubts she's ever alone, in yellow nights of dreams, even when she's far away, nothing is what it seems, in many ways she's prone, looks lost without a name, the work is just her own, insight lets her see, painting's like the mail, it arrives from history, the pull of other thrones, never lets her reign, serene when she's gone, work is her Gethsamane, wakes and eyes the day, another stroke for liberty, can be no other way.
