Elly

Smouldering like a star, chasing numbers, leaving doors ajar, she's a different calendar her boss says 'i wonder', isn't that a great heart, then she buys a car, makes it her trouble, it won't go far, right from the off, bewildered, her tears flood the bar, ten years later, we still hear her laughter, she doesn't do parts, now from a false start. surrendered, her lipstick stark, love always hungers.

Davina

In a supermarket yard, her lovely face washed, by rain and river salt, dressed always decent, her trolley for a brush, she looks at their blankets, lost spirits without spark, they lie here to rest, it's a rare clerk, who won't get upset, put to the test, pitying their tents, life here is stark, in ways that they forage, then rage like storks, think only of the present, tear at their crusts, make out for the best, last in some chart, if life is a sequence, she gives them her heart, stops for the vagrants.

Charlie

Sometimes in this place, you just don't know, if you’ll make it, the same with those, who never show, they don't understand, if there's time to pray, give me a blow, while others turn up late, how they break my bones, do they know, no one gets by alone, I really need to state, sunlight comes with stones, life is not a holiday, this cafĂ© trade is slow, red wine’s not to waste, a crowded bar atones, it’s a happy day, listening to a jazz solo, cigarettes to taste, an atmosphere of home.

Bella

By the garden door, of Saint Phillip Neri, she sees the poor, they cross Catherine Street, need in their eyes, linen unclean, the soul of lost hordes, someone asks why, they slouch as they walk, who needs pity, when pity is sly, dances at the beggar's party, all of them caught, there'll be no inquiry, when truth is sought, perish the guilty, each part of their lives, is fractured then buried, makes a perfect nought, a crime to identify, the troubled and lost, between moon and sky ?

Annie

Do you remember the sea, the swell and the spray, our dance of Thebes, now the kids have flown, gone away, they look after their own, we walk on the beach, at the end of the day, all our loving sweeps, each part of our home, suddenly drained, find we're alone, you grab my sleeve, pull me close and say, let's go back East, by the wind brown coast, I hold your face, smell your Cologne, to catch horizons like these, sets me off to pray, buy me ice cream, celebrate our days.

Zuri

Your house beyond the dunes, sea roses beneath the sky, picket fences ease your ruin, a life that's been great, absence poems always cry, sing sweeter than the prostrate, even God is not immune, he puts your love aside, some things can't be duped, fire burns in the grate, don't tell me how you lied, smoke rises it gets late, is it me or the blues, dying in the tide, can't you see you fool, no voice makes me salivate, eves hanging out to dry, being near your fire place, they ask how are you, pilloried troubles slight, what a dancing troupe, drapes their disguise.

Yara

He has such giving ways, brings me Bollinger, on Christmas Day, what can we do alone, without relinqhuishing, circumstances of our own, wine pours down my face, it’s like a Christening, he cuts the Angel cake, are we here or gone, he hasn't got a pot to piss in, we laugh at the unknown, choose to live or chase, summon our lives as witness, called upon to pray, we stumble down the road, rattle chains from the sea, taste to test our resolve, my greatest days, come when not scared witless, huge hours to celebrate, our restless spirits.
