Frankie
Parade all the while,
while you’re on bail,
raise a homely smile,
in your creaky bones,
you’re not here to stay,
can't wait to be alone,
you left me to die,
on your holy grail,
said don't waste my time,
don't think you can atone,
your lies always fail,
hanging like a scarecrow,
flip a coin to the sky,
talk of hoisting sail,
you'll never ever fly,
drink wine from a cone,
bin some desolate mail,
try to tame your ghosts,
what it means to cry,
finds you out this way,
brains that are wired,
worse than any jail.

A cracked dirty room,
offers no insight,
to see how you look,
this is no model game,
a race out of time,
who holds the reins,
don't act like a fool,
over toasted lies,
understand the doing,
when eyes feel pain,
burn bright as fireflies,
let others go their way,
find stuff that's cool,
you’re churning inside,
face up to that duel,
when they ask to play,
show them the dice,
blow on them the same,
eschew goody good shoes,
enjoy moments of fame,
no need to be cruel,
you'll feel great.

A smile on his face,
he says he’ll carry on,
can’t turn away,
a horizon once bright,
he'll navigate the bones,
whatever path is right,
he could take a plane,
where love comes from,
it once flew his way,
the gesture's not kind,
he could cry but won't,
how can you make light,
why love works this way,
he’ll never understand,
not here on the runway,
within a city's sight,
there's hardly a sound,
his eyes question why,
bets he cannot make,
won't take him far,
nothing more to gain,
just go back home.

What you can't find,
makes you reach again,
for the ball of twine,
tie him here alone,
there's much to gain
stay out on your own,
if you think of why,
standing in the rain,
allows you to get by,
you'll drench your bones,
now dry as an angel,
in your new pose,
why try to disguise,
each hour of the day,
he still rolls the dice,
don't trust the 'phone,
it'll ruin your game,
love has no real home,
just throw him a line,
catch a fast train,
dance a different life,
get out ofthis place.

We drink for company,
God knows if we're right,
this place needs sympathy,
the front of house door,
cracked out of sight,
a window broken floor,
just leave us in peace,
fear grips our night,
cooking's not our being,
eyes sharp at their core,
glinting each day bright,
have no truck for more,
he says hold girl easy,
arms beseech the sky,
nothing stands scrutiny,
so happy we're sore,
in the morning light,
everything turns raw,
can you smell the sea,
a message from on high,
he's not as bad as me,
we don't do lies.

A smile on my face,
says we’ll carry on,
can’t turn away,
a horizon once bright,
we tread over bones,
like a desert at night,
maybe take a train,
like a love that's gone,
might come around again,
the picture's not kind,
I could cry but won't,
my place to make light,
it might work out okay,
he’ll never understand,
the price that's to pay,
within a city's sight,
there's hardly a sound,
under this Spring sky,
a time to reshape,
not tied to false hope,
there’s nothing to gain,
by going alone.

Some things you can't fool,
in the gentle rain,
don't know what to do,
am i scrubbed by fire,
hear myself say,
is it only his desire,
want to hear good news,
sail down country lanes,
look who's following you,
like birds on a wire,
its hard to ascertain,
who's the biggest liar,
he puts me in a stew,
in fields makes me taste,
warm and bitter fruit,
he don't care if why,
I sometimes miss my brains,
worry when I cry,
it doesn’t take a mule,
to move the earth again,
it's only in the blues,
only one to praise.
