Phoebe
She sees the creep of moon,
yellow as the easy night,
rise again too soon,
gleaming black cars swwep,
around kids who drink wine,
summer goes without sleep,
men who love to cruise,
seek meaning of their life,
like their women fools,
she smiles but doesn’t need,
lemon blonde August subshine,
she's never in too deep,
on her white railed schooner,
she embraces the sky,
hoisting her own festoons,
she laughs as waves leap,
nothing makes her frightened,
guides the rippled sheets,
and everything brightens.

Who wants to be free,
asks my new found lover,
I lift my hand easy,
nothing between me and home,
breezes kind on the peninsula,
it’s not right to be alone,
her bright smiling homily,
is not given to anyone,
toenails painted strawberry,
she'll re -arrange my loans,
a really fun one,
big colours of her clothes,
red wine and the sea,
I ask if anyone's told her,
about the scope of emnity,
God knows where she's from,
it's a short step to clarity,
better say what’s going on,
I don't do security.

The sum of brighter days,
secures a great freedom,
my dance away from jail,
the cafĂ©’s and the streets,
bring a sense of ease,
even solace to my sleep,
not a real holiday,
but a place in between,
where I love to stay,
all my debts released,
beneath cool plane trees,
music floats over me,
I adore this quiet place,
even in the summer season,
luck has had its say,
no matter the law decrees,
the chaos of my journey,
brings me to the sea,
all its cool tranquility.

Could you love me,
would you dare,
the way wheels turn,
look at me I seethe,
is it my long hair,
that makes you dream,
drunk on glossy magazines,
would you care,
the nights we went easy,
with someone's being,
and no one else there,
even at fifty three,
blowing like steam,
your eyes flared,
are you ready to believe,
I am no has beens,
to make you scared,
with my new teeth,
my nose in the air.

You whisper love,
on throwaway 'phones,
your ravaged face a moon,
you wear a hooded coat,
saints reveal their bomes,
they massages your soul,
your hands in kid gloves,
a life learning to moan,
you fly to those who give,
frisky as a spring foal,
silent as a snowy owl,
survey the market zones,
eager to earn a crust,
is why you'll follow,
fresh linen and Cologne,
when men need a shawl,
apply the sacred oaths,
won't let them pray alone,
far beyond the purple dust,
your star is coming home,
they know how much lost,
how much sown.

What you would never do,
stuff you swore,
ride in fields of blue,
dance again to the sun,
rage against broken laws,
pretend you're the one,
my partner droops,
why do you say this for,
fools ding out of tune,
she makes me want to run,
take holy orders,
drown my days in rum,
rage at every heirloom,
act a rouged whore,
leave her here to stew,
certain things I shun,
binding ties for sure,
eyes wide for one,
love makes me roar.

Jessie
When did I start crying,
was going back to Ireland,
when my son asked why,
Nana loved the horses,
you who poured sand,
on that altered discourse,
like the ferry glides,
over how my life crammed,
to anchor in his smiles,
he says Nana is forlorn,
a martyr to her son,
did she ever dawn,
you were the one who lied,
tales somehow run aground,
the way he died,
all through these storms,
i am masking wounds,
troubled notwithstanfing,
he wasn't done.
