Sophie
Do we keep or burn,
a love like gas,
the flame turned down,
you can demand the crown,
now time has passed,
you're not perturbed,
on drugs you went to town,
but you'd never collapse,
there was always a prayer,
on smokey brown chairs,
with songs so crass,
consider them trounced,
all i did was have affairs,
to hold you fast,
raise you from the ground,
let you warm and learn,
lovers talk made you laugh,
you never really did care,
or say it would last.

Quella
When you talk coastlines,
when you feel rain,
remember this time,
don't try to pay my fine,
coming home you say,
we don't need to downsize,
smile down the line,
wait for a dismal train,
passengers like needles in sunshine,
feted for your crimes,
a bridge across the plain,
lost in your own designs,
it never turns out right,
our youngest is a vagrant,
sleeping, drinking wine,
church bells ring and chime,
please do realise your games,
somewhere a solace flies,
far away from pain.

Patricia
Eyes beat like fireflies,
you are no one's fool,
dancing on the bread line,
they ask me why,
this Sunday in June,
one face of your Christ,
sunlight on the lilac,
you're 38 and cool,
but gone beyond signs,
crazy side of the lines,
the way you move,
your veiled over cries,
your family's demise,
the money you tooled,
fueled lovers with lies,
not poor nor error light,
but a cracked open duel,
it could be your highlight,
what's going on inside.

bites a cotton handkerchief
her face narrows in delay
but gives no signal
little wonder on that line
like ribbons on a nosegay
she bites a cotton handkerchief
sunlight floods the gates.
Penny
Waiting for the train,
an ordinary day a breeze,
on methadone you never pray,
Amtrack kicks up a spray,
this isn't my scene.
long journey nerves are frayed,
its gone half past eight,
she waves goodbye to dreams,
i'm cool but burn with rage,
the way she closes the gate,
i still feel the heat,
me who'll take the blame,
carriage windows in the rain,
it's never just to plead,
that makes her shout too late,
she'll always make me pay,
you see what i mean,
loving now with Tammy Ray,
face narrowed to a scream.

Omaha
She measures a distance beaten,
by public telephones,
across fields of blue wheat,
she won't bathe in wine or yeast,
isolated but not alone,
living by a rolling creek,
a granny with rolled up sleeves,
like the catechism she holds,
and rifle next to the sheets,
what better cure is a cry of ease,
than to surrender perfume soaked,
with a lover from the East,
her drink is whisky free,
ravaged lipstick Eau De Cologne,
she whispers her feelings,
secrets like lemons are seeping,
from her white garden wall,
she thinks to defeat them,
carrying this load.

Nula
Ride through a field of corn,
my lover asks,
dance like you were never born,
an altar to pray upon,
how can you live like that,
my heart beats without scorn,
i want to tell her soon,
roar like a big cat,
i'm not a fool to dream,
flee this love that's torn,
the kids are on the flat,
my loving ain't done,
spirit an ancient charm,
from this little chat,
gallop beneath a perfect sun,
run before a following storm,
its not much to ask,
ride the rails, fly this form,
adjust the Ray Bans.
