Fiona Three

From her white garden seat, she carries a load, secrets spread like poppy seed, stuff you keep, ravaged by lipstick or Cologne, she whispers her feelings, others call trick or treat, she surrenders perfume soaked, to drink her whisky neat, living by a swollen creek, the bible has a hold, this grandma rolls her sleeves, a rifle next to the sheets, she's no rolling stone, no better cure than ease, won't bathe in love's defeat, isolate but still at home, little time for feasts, she measures the string beans, there are no public telephones, down fields of blue wheat, she's not alone.

I'm not a fool at dawn, to say anything like that, my eyes aver without scorn, I want to be at sea, on a wooden raft, there's still time to dream, summon ancient form, from our little mat, sail into a perfect calm, I want to speak clearly, not roar like a big cat, say this is not some scheme, I'm torn, living life on the flat, my life isn't done, can I play the sweep, adjust my Ray Bans, dance before tea, gallop through a field of corn, would you like that I ask, move like never born, wouldn’t that be a gas?

Don't Forget you're better, than those little kids, even if they stick together, they come down here for booze, kissing their fingertips, as if there's more good news, love is not forever, where you laugh and skip, time at all or never, throw off the Tuesday Blues, roll around your hips, it's the time for truth, nothing beats duress, giving liars the slip, grabbing hope at its crest, who needs a little dress, lipstick on your lips, Juke Box at your request, would you be lesser, if you stood there stripped, binned all the letters, wise in what you miss?

Who can speak of empathy, sitting on a wall, a neighbour of the sea, see her eyes come awake, they dance on thorns, she reads me and fakes, each day of being happy, it's echoed in my calls, un absencia of feeling, who wants to stake, a life of being torn, so I hesitate, someone asks me, a penny for your thoughts, and what about infidelity, so useless really, being a liar adrift forlorn, within this season, shivering here in the lee, shudder if i'm caught, this is not me, wondering if I'm born.

What dreams do we keep, they ask us the ghosts, sat at bars or seats, leave us alone thank you, our faces might need soap, but we've heard the news, we are not at ease, have thrown away the ropes, just let us be, do what we say we'd do, bones as strong as stones, no need for your views, a ticket for the Sea, carries tiny wings of hope, hanging on the breeze, don't ask how we sleep, or even what we know, as ships or docksides leap, set ourselves free, take freight trains home, laugh at our belief, we can keep it going

You face the zone, somewhere far from ecstasy, tells me all I know, steeped away in time, the daily political commentary, your life combines with mine, your neck smooth as chrome, when the torso pulls free, help me test your bones, on Sunday's drink wine, and you my lover freeze, love in this turbulent clime, take life's fine tooth comb, dance like a honey bee, not the smell of scorn, or a house down the line, the bottom of the cone, laughter's not a crime, as our bodies list and groan, let us go carefree, angels coming home, watching morning TV.

What do you care, the pull on my traces, that makes me swear, a tune in blue trees, thick weave on my face, spun on the breeze, what can you share, heaven's no kissing gate, but you send me there, in chains to the sea, unlike your gaze, that sparks electricity, hard to know what's there, with your voice raised, your lips that snare, down broken streets, no one runs or hesitates, from sugar treats, you say I'm square, if singing's so great, why are you so unaware, of each passing day?
