Petra Three

I don't need a shrink, but a lover that sways, give me time to think, what I might disown, like a brew man’s dray, an arm full of barrels, I know what you're thinking, you don't need to say, my house is a sink, a letter from the town, makes a window display, when hostage rules sorrow, I swerve on the brink, though whole summer’s days, plates gather and stink, the stuff that I down, would make a choirboy drink the heat off my brow, it takes a gold cufflink, to lift open my gate, face like an ice rink, make this ship sail.

What might have been, is not always fair, for a life of ease, don't sing me the blues, you’re not that aware, to turn from virtue, blowing like steam, your nostrils flared, eyes a simple scream, tell me the truth, is my voice so slurred, who needs more proof, I drink on sad evenings, would you care, when I lay beat, look at me I seethe, is it my thin hair, do I need new teeth, can you love me, think you’ll dare, the way I aim to be, are you scared?

Your star is coming home, besides a police light, in gardens, you lie prone, whisper your love, on throwaway nights, your ravaged face a moon, like saints parade their bones, a song gets you tight, makes you drink alone, alcoves shine with doves, a learned moan is cried, you pray to those above, fresh linen and eau de cologne, always makes them sigh, it brings more scope, you are not that good, millions live and die, some without a roof, luminous as a frozen stone, you stand just to the side, far beyond the credit zones, they all know why.

I'm not your drip, within a big sea, the yellow light hid, what about your lover, with all her surly needs, has she got a number, that you need to live, alongside your creed, who do you mint, on that edge of wonder, that pitiless belief, a high heeled flounder, stones and pieces of drift, know not to flee, what's in your gift, enslave or encumber, a lifetime of greed, instead of sweet slumber, would you leave me in sin, at life's end in weeds, spinning more fibs, that none of us need.

Facedown terrible claims, no star can refuse, your outrageous fades, you who wonder why, the canons of virtue, feel those cotton stripes, this is no child’s game, The TV blares fake news, Quashing your days, around terrible lies, golden trinkets spin the blues, even your crass disguise, iron bars the way, what is there to rue, hit them on the make, only fools really try, with someone like you, tired of this butterfly, better hold the doo-doo, especially on parade, eyes glazed like fish glue, go easy on the truth.

Why pay a heavy score, your almond eyes are ruined, love is raw, can you feel my bones, like a heavy boom, attached to a useless crone, life is not a door, where you put the boot in, or pray to broken laws, say you won't leave home, only fools live feudin', until the love is gone, don't divide me by whores, with other stuff you do, or scream it’s because, just pick up the phone, why live out of tune, then run away lost, break holy orders, drain summer into June, all you swore, lies beneath the moon.

Once I knew, when life is so short, it helps beat the Blues, in this summer night, when you don’t phone, the house gives no respite, no books or other dues, when you just go, a trail not well used, they know of your plight, who you fought, your cards are on fire, you're never that mule, when you are caught, others still rule, if there’s ever a sign, to parade overwrought, don’t let them step light, put a stop to it will you, don't have me condone, those you balloon, so far from home.
