Helena
Smoking a cigarette I exhale,
shrunken in my mind,
a lover's face impaled,
can anyone retain,
that unforgiving light,
whatsoever she gained,
hunted, proud, unfazed,
no longer hailing the sky,
I met her first in jail,
she knew certain names,
where it's wise not to lie,
unship or regale,
whom not to shame,
she beat out her time,
amidst raging flames,
kept certain betrayals,
mine the hauling frame,
her eyes like the rain,
blue as the wind.
